I have a 92 Arctic Cat 550 EXT Special. When the clutch engages at about 4500rpm it makes a clunk sound then away I go. Can someone tell me why or what is causing it.

Is it just doing that when you start or is it all the time?

Sounds like and old belt. 4500 rpm's is a high engagement and clunks because the belt locks into position hard. Like dropping the clutch in a car. WHOP! And away you go!

Are all you bolts that bolt your tunnel to your suspension in? We were missing one in are Z and it was making a clunk, got it fixed now.

Check the chain tension.
Yep, although it could be a number of things, the chaincase is the most likely culprit.

does it use cleats? i had a old sled (i never found out wat kind or anything) it made clunkin sounds too, i checked the track and one of the cleats was bent and kept hitting the tunnel wen i rode it, wich equals the clunkin sound!

yeah i had a buddy and when he went off it made a deep clunk and took off. does it feel weird when you go. see if the belt has a angle on it. if it does it could be bad. i would check the clutch stuff before the chain case. try tighting the jam nut on the chain case second and if that doesnt work then go deaper. getting in there is a pain in the u know what.

on my old 94 zr7, a motor mount was broken, and everytime i took off it made a clunk.
so grab the motor and see if it moves. its shouldnt move much if its ok, if its broken it'll move an inch or more(probly more).
so inspect all motor mounts..

There should not be any "clunk" or any other noises associated with starting off. Check all motor mounts and the torque stop first, then check that the chain is not loose and then the track. Since the chain tension is held by a spring tensioner on this model, make sure that it is working properly and that the chain is not stretched out.
