A couple of friends and I hit a local lake yesterday in the bitter cold (-1º yesterday) to take advantage of the new snowfall. There were lots of drifts out on the lake that were pretty easy to blast through.

They had been over there last weekend just as our 40º warm up was ending and found this...

842 miles on the odometer... what a shame. Sled looks like it's in mint condition, too. There haven't been any reports of missing sledders, so I will assume that the driver is ok. If it was stolen, I hope they find the driver under the sled when it's pulled out!

The registration was tucked inside the handlebar cover so I could see that the owner was a local. Hope it doesn't cost him too much to have it there. It's pretty much in an ice heave and is probably being crushed right now.

Because of it's location, right where sled traffic is going to be, I decided that the best course of action would be to let the DNR know that it's there. I took the registration to the local office and they hadn't heard about it yet, so I showed them on the map where it's located. With all the drifting going on yesterday, I could just see it getting covered up and someone plastering it. Skis caught in the handlebars and a rider being thrown across the ice. Wasn't a pretty mental image.

I hope it doesn't cost the owner a fortune for it being there and I hope they get it out soon. If I had the ambition, I'd take my chainsaw over there, round up a few friends, and start chipping away at it.

Not so long ago, a deranged, ranting person's audience was limited to how many people happened to be on the same street. The Internet, however, has certainly allowed "crazy" to go global...

I would've tried to pull the sled out and bring it home, call the police and let them know you have 2 sleds that you found on the ice, I wouldnt want someone to come flying through the lake and smash into them. That would be alot of work though, unless you had a really nice torch or a chainsaw.lol Like said below though, you dont want to get accused of anything. Well done.

I think ya done good already. Let the authorities handle it from this point forward.

You don't want to get accused of trying to steal it, stripping it etc.

Bout the only other thing you might do is mark it with a flag or something, so that other riders don't run into it, if it has not been removed or marked already.

Good Job!
