Hi Everybody, Bought a indy 400 that runs but bogs at 4000rpm then goes great once you get it spinning. Replaced primary spring with a new red 1 replaced all rollers and its the same. The belt to sheeve clearance is about 3/4 of an inch. My Question is how do I get the clearance down to the correct width and does anyone know wether these weights are correct or causing the problem? Thanks in advance Dan

To change your sheave clearance you will need to take the spider out of your primary and then take a few washers out. That seems a little extreme though.... is your belt new? how does the belt sit in the secondary?? does it accelerate hard till 4k? if it pulls hard till then and then falls on it's face try changing the spring to a tighter hole in the secondary to raise your upshift point. stock weights are a 54.5 gram.

No it doesn't accelerate much at all until 4500, was going to remove both washers to close gap, the belt isn't brand new but with the gap being so excessive I was hoping that someone was going to say the weights were the wrong ones. does it matter if I run it with no washers? Belt sits just proud of secondary at rest. All I want to achieve is for it to pull itself out of the ditches to cross the roads because bogging to a stop on the highway is getting scary

Bought a new belt today, seems to have closed the gap some. Will remove 1 of the washers from the primary tomorrow. Seems to be a case of belt looked O.K compared to the spare but in reality they were both shot. ( I meant to say 3/8ths on original posting not 3/4) still no idea what the A2 weights are?

Hey, glad you got most of it figured out. I don't know right off hand what those weights weigh? I will find out for you what they weigh. I have 10MB's in my primary which are stock, and they are 47.5 grams. if you have a triple beam you could just weigh them. If not I'll try to get back to you. If you post a new topic about it one of the guys will probably know right off the top of their heads.

hey i have a 85 Indy 400 and i was having that same problem. i took off my secondary clutch and sanded down my helix with a really fine sand paper and just add a little grease to it so it wont stick. and mine runs great now. i haven't had a problem since.
