I think proper clutch allignment and a torque stop will help the belt problem and maybe a different clutch set up. The vibrations you will have to deal with.
GOOD LUCK with it

I will start first by saying this is not a sled for a novice or for someone who doesn't know how to wrench on a sled, if you rely on a buddy, friend, or dealer for that matter that doesn't have a clue what he's doing.. you can get into issues with this sled very quickly.
Secondly, it's going to vibrate... all big twins do.... and really, there is no real cure for it.... put a SLP torque arm on it and SLP hot air elimination kits on it and a Team 420719 helix in it and don't look back... you won't have anymore belt issuses.... I recently got one and I love it... big torque, big acceleration and big mph out of it. A lot of people bad mouth the sled without ever sitting on one... trust me.... one crack of the throttle and you will have a permenent smile on your face... just keep up with the maintenence on it and you will be fine.

Another thing that is a must on those is on the left hand compartment down by your foot, take out the compartment dish. That allows tons of heat to escape the clutches and at the same time keep your foot warm. A regular sled partner did it on his and he couldn't believe the amount of heat that still comes out on his foot even WITH the SLP hot air elimination kit, which I believe gets rid of that huge bulky plastic piece on the belt gaurd. He also has a different air intake on his I believe it is also from SLP (not sure though) but it gives you a totally new lightweight compact air cleaner and intake system. With all these upgrades the sled actually works very well. He has only had 2 engines blow on his in 5000 miles. I would really suggest riding one before dropping $5000 on one, because some people cannot handle the vibration, actually I don't think anyone can except Fusion riders, so try one first because there is no getting around it, and on that particular sled it is like no vibration I have ever felt, except operating a power chisel....well maybe not quite that bad.
Note: he also has the above mentioned components that PolarisEdge noted and they do work good.

Either the Timber Sled or SLP high flow air intake system is the way to go. I have a Timber Sled high flow intake and love it.
Best thing about the 900 is that every one under estimates them, Liveing in Webster NY, I will tell you that the only local mechanic that knows what he is doing on them here is Steve at FILERS in Macedon. STAY AWAY FROM THE DEALER ON Rt. 104 in Ontario when it comes to wrenching!!! They are part of the problem when it comes to Fusion slander.
No One beats FILERS on price or wrench knowledge in western/central NY.
E-mail me and I can set you up with a great deal on one and it will be set up right from the dealer. I do not work for them, I just learned from expirience. By the way, Loved my INDY STORM to.

thanks . I don't understand what you mean by the belt guard? The hot air kit goes on the hood(round little vents)but if you should put the on the belt guard I'm not sure how that will work. I was going to put them on the hood on the clutch side.
I bought it. I payed 3500 for 05 w/2000 mile after market skis,iq seat, windshield(red),handle bar guards , reveres, red tow bar in the front, red tow bar in the back,144 studs and all the recalls are done (I ran the vin #'s,)is that a good deal?

id say it was a good deal because my friedns dad just bought a 900 fusion for that price wiht some minor cracks, 3000 miles and no aftermarket stuff
1st of all the real weight of the xp is 439.
2nd it is how the engine makes the hp through out the rpm range.
3rd the Dragon 800sp has the Ripsaw track 1.25.
4th ,you have no idea of what you are talking about.
5th get the F-CK out and stop bashing.
6th your Mach z 1000 is a chit box.

Well my buddies belt guard came from SLP or Timber Sled and it is just a thin little sheet of aluminum like an old style Indy belt guard and it eliminates that massive black plastic piece that sits on the stock one (which keeps too much heat under the hood) and the new one really allows for the underhood to breathe better, and keeps the belt and clutches cooler.
Yeah that was a good deal, they are going for $5000 up here.

The sled is fuel injected... no jets required.... efi computer will look after that, and you never need to rejet after clutching on a carbed sled.

All of you have the right idea for the fixing the 900 Fusion. My buddy has two of the 2005 model 900 vibrators. First thing to know, if you haven't looked under the hood prior to purchase, WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE OF SLEDS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF WORKING ON THEM IN YOUR GARAGE!! Better know what the hell you are doing, open your wallet. Second, yes these damn things will vibrate the hell out of you, why do you think Polaris dropped them from their line-up so sudden. Third, yes they have an appetite for Kevlar, and want it for desert too!! The torque stop is a recall item, but SLP and other after market vendors have better products. Now on to the heat problem; if you open the hood after a hard 1/2 hour of pounding this vibrator, you might think you were in the Carribean Islands with some fruity drinks going down!! Any additional holes where heat can escape is in order, SLP offers a kit that is superior to others, gets to the point around shock towers and actually does a pretty good job keeping the clutch under 900 degrees!! If you are looking to be the bad A$$ on the trail or lake, it's all all the hood my friend, just bring plenty of $20's for at the pump and belts, she goes through them at a rapid pace

Polarisedge is right on when about having a big smile when you hit the flipper. I;m really happy with my sled and it hasn't let me down yet.
I took both console storage doors out and replace them with vents to allow heat to escape, 420719 helix, geared down 24/37 and a timbersled intake. Plus i have many cosmetic accessories. I love my sled and i get a lot of compliments on it.

you have to love the people that just bad mouth a sled mithout ever owning ones, just liek the people that say triples are junk and have never owned one.
Read the reveiws on the sleds, for ever bad there are 5 good, and from what i have read if you get the updates done or they are already done you should be good to go, i too am looking at these monsters.

Yes you are correct about the bad mouthing, but in all fairness, the sled does have a lot of issuses to contend with... but like I said in my previous post... once you spend a few dollars you will have 0 heat and 0 belt issuses... I run the 1080 belt without worry all the way to 116mph, with the hot air elimination kit installed, the clutches barely get luke warm, even when I'm really banging on it. So far I still have the stock airbox and the consol doors are still in and I have no under cab heat issuses. The biggest problem with the sled by far is the clutching... not nearly enough weight in the primary and completely wrong helix and spring setup in the back.
Put 11-76 weights in it, almond blue primary spring, a 719 helix and a red/black secondary spring if you under 300lbs or a red/pink if over 300 lbs, install 3 derlin washers in the secondary, 1 under the cup, and 1 under each end of the spring, put a 24 tooth in the top or a 38 in the bottom and hang on... if your going to run the stock pipe make sure your not spinning more than 7200 rpm... stock clutching will spin 76-7700 which is the reason a lot of smaller sleds could run with the 900's.
After 7200 rpm the motor will seriously drop off power.. if you leave it in stock trim you are running the same horsepower as a IQ 600 cfi, that's why the 900 was deemed as a turd by some people. If you follow those clutching specs and listen to the tips... your 900 will be a rocket.
Here's a look at a real world dyno graph to explain what I am saying about where your target rpm is, remember this target running rpm is only if you are running the stock pipe..

I talked to a guy on Sunday who had a 900 Fusion. Didn't know the year, but it was red and black. He said that his hands actually go numb when he's riding at a good clip on the trails. He didn't know about the hot air elimination kit, or the SLP torque arm. He said it's a fast sled though.

I am going to put in the helix that you suggested with 66/44 degree do I need to change the spring or the primary to run this?

You don't have to but you will see minimal gains without doing the primary and changing the secondary spring. All of what I stated above is a must to make the machine work... all except the gearing... you can leave it stock.

No it won't give it enough breathing, you need to take out the entire compartment behind the door. Just use the one on the right side of the sled for storage.
