So when do you guys feel good about rebuild? How many miles? I put new outer bearings on crank, seals, gaskets and rings.
Curious how many miles you have had a bad build go, before it blew up? This my 1st 2 stroke build by myself. Did one 4 stroke bike, which now has 20k miles. But was nervous for awhile.

Put oil in tank, and I am taking it easy. Should I retorque the head bolts?

2000 Triumph 4800 miles.

Engine was fine, was the water pump.

After running the sled for a little while, idle only, short bursts of no more than 1/4 throttle, I re-checked the bolts on the head to ensure they were snug. They had been torqued, but I at least checked to ensure they weren't loose. I had buddy of mine, another member on here, rebuild the engine. He's done a few, so I trust his capability. Pre-mixed the gas w/ oil for the first half tank, and I've got almost 200 miles, and no issues. Engine pulls strong, idles with no issues, and no bogging or knocking, using premium fuel.

Good luck!

Sucks at first you don't know if yuo can trust it. Just curious how many miles people have had on bad rebuilds when they blew. I know of course, there is no straight answer.

I personally would have put all new crank bearing on it. also would have had a pro feel the rods to check the big bearings on the rods.

as long as you run good oil and premium gas you can expect fine results until something breaks. meaning with a 2 stroke, it will show up real fast if you did anything wrong,

I had pro look at the crank, he said it was fine. I tore down a perfectly good motor. Was the water pump making noise.

I replacd the 3 outer bearings, since I had it apart, plus seals and rings.

Give it twenty miles on a good rebuild, things should show by then. If you cut any corners then anything goes, I'd never trust it.

96 xlt sks/rmk. custom 5.5 inch riser on the bars, custom air intake, custom front shock mounts, custom oil feed channel in block to inner pto end bearing, primer (I hate chokes), custom = I made it myself
