I have a 1994 Ski Doo Grand Touring 580. A friend crashed the left ski into a concrete drain tube and bent the ski and trailing arm. After bending trailing arm back to driveable condition, all the lights in the hood and guages(except the fuel guage) stopped working(the tail/brake light continued to work, although the indicator light in the dash stayed on). After complete inspection of all wiring from coil to handlebars and all electrical circuits turned up no loose connectors, I went to the multi-meter and started tracing the ground circuit. I got all the way to the connector near the front left ski(this just happens to be the impact side) that connects the hood harness and disconnected the harness that has the main ground from the chassis. I powered the lighting circuit and grounded the negative test lead to the engine. When I put the red test lead to the ground wire coming from the guages, it reads 12 volts(an obvious short-circuit sitch). If I ground the hood ground wire, all the lights work(but the ground jumper sparks when it first touches the ground point). I carefully unwrapped all the hood wires and found no obvious shorts. I tried unplugging each connector at the guages and there was no change in the voltmeter reading until I unplugged EVERY guage and headlights. No matter which guage I plug in the short-circuit is present, although the two indicator lamps for high beam and brake light do not cause a short(but they are not receiving power as I only powered the yellow light wires). I am at a total loss right now as to how to pinpoint this problem. Again, there are no signs of melted connectors, no chaffed wires, no burnt signs on the guages. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
