I am 16 years old and saved enough money to buy a 1997 arctic cat zr 580. I paid $1250 for the sled then stuck another $450 into getting new driveshaft, bearings, lights, and all the basics. Rounding it up i got 1700$ stuck in the sled. I put racing graphics on it and it looks great. I took it out this weekend and put on 80 miles & it ran awesome. Did i Get a good deal.

Any decent cans or silincers or rumblepacks i can stick on this to make it sound nice?

hmmm ok deal i guess. not the greatest. just sold my 98 zl 500 couple weeks ago on ebay for $960 with a clutch kit in it, didnt get the best gas mileage (around 8) but i couldnt get anyone interested for what i was asking so i dropped it to $960. but maybe i got complitely ripped off, sold it to a good guy and i just wanted to get rid of it so its not a big deal i guess.

On the contrary 94zr700kid, I loved my 97zr580efi, and didn't like mid90's polaris's as much as Arctic Cats. But to each his own. Cat 580, you will be happy with the sled, I would have tried to talk him down a bit like everyone said but I don't think you will be dissappointed with the ride and motor in that sled. Congrats.

One piece of advice is check your intake boots as they were prone to cracking and make you run lean. The sled are gas pigs but my old zr was the funnest sled i've ever ridden and easily out handled my buddies rev.

You've had that RMK for what...a week. How long did you have that ZR and how many miles were on each. Don't be putting that RMK on a pedastal just yet. From what I've read, either you bet the crap out of your 700 or you got a lemon.

Anyways, given how much you had to drop into it after buying, I'd say you could have done better on the initial price. Definitely on the high side of the market.

They're heavy sleds, but pretty snappy. You won't be dissapointed.

Yeah i realize i payed a little much. I also have a 99' polaris xc 600 wich i put about 350 miles on already because my cat580 was gettin fixed but know that i got the 580 back i put 80 miles on it and like it better than the xc 600. I think it has more power even tho the xc600 just got a overhauled engine 2months ago. I actually topped my sled out at 98mph on the lake. It might of had a little more. Is that pretty good?

Thanks. I just got the sled completely checked over. I guess mine is'nt real bad on gas if i don't beet the piss out of it. I actually raced my buddy on a 2006 polaris 700 fusion and he only took me by about 3 sled lengths in the long run.

98mph is about right. I had to work my 580 over pretty hard and in the perfect conditions to hit triple digits.

If it has the fox shocks don't forget to get them rebuilt about every year or two. They start to get pretty bad after that. When I first picked mine up, it looked like a drag sled. You could also upgrade the suspension and drop in a skid from a 98-02 ZR.

I hate to break the news to you but when riding these sleds they love to be run hard and fast, my last one only knew idle and wide open. The upper 90s are pretty much as fast as these sleds will run but they can get there pretty quickly.

I am actually looking for something a bit newer like a 03' or newer snow pro or f-series of any kind, or even just something 2000-2001 or newer(zr,zl,etc.). Any body got one at descent price?

I have a 1997 580 zr efi that boggs out at 7000 RPM sometimes can get 8000 out of it. It even boggs alittle on the low end. Motor is freshly rebuilt and all new cluching took it to a machanic and he basicly ruled out it being a fuel problem and told me to buy a new block chip that plugs into the ECU because the timing was off. Does this chip control timimg and does that seem like it could be the problem?

good luck selling it when you "beat the hell outta any sled you touch" idk if you'll get what you paid out of it, pretty sure you wont.
