Looking for advice on new sled for me, I’m thinking 2003 – 2006 and around a 600cc.
My type of riding has been mostly groomed trails, ditches and along the rivers.
I need a sled that I can ride all day in the trails doing 40 – 45mph or the rivers at 70 – 80mph. So far we have not done much powder and defiantly no mountain riding (were flatlanders. Ha-ha.)
Also I don’t want to be the last guy on the trail but I’m thinking 800’s & 900’s are just too big.
Looking for opinions - THANKS

A Polaris IQ 600 sound right in your ball park. Solid motor, can be had in a Fusion packadge for CHEAP, plus it is the fastest 600 in it's class. So go check one out and see if you like it. You just have to remember is when looking for a sled, don't buy what your buddy says is great, buy what suits you best. If at all posible do some test riding.

I would suggest a F6 firecat, or a XC 600 around a 01-04, they are very reliable if kept stock (my mom has a 02 600 Classic with 13,000 miles on it and never opened the engine). Also if you could get your hands on a Polaris Ultra, they are very smooth running and dependable if kept stock. But I would look for guys who have these sleds before you buy one, try it out. Rev 600 would be a good sled, however, the riding position is very different from the "lazy boy" "sit back" style of most other sleds for groom trail cruising. Try one first.
Good luck

tough choice i'd go with a polaris 600 ves. bullet proof reliability and yet plenty of power to get you anywhere.

2003-06 F6 or F7. Amazing sleds. F7s can surprise 1000cc sleds and when setup theres no match stock for stock, no matter what the Polaris faithful will try to tell ya.

if you want to coin up a little more cash, the polaris IQ shift is always a great option. my dads friend just baught one and loves it. if your not looking that new i would say any of the xcsp sleds from 2001 up. also im only mentioning polaris because this is in the polaris section, so im guessing you want to ride the best, haha. but really there are so many more choices out there. i would go to some local dealers and sit on some new and used sleds and see how they fit for you
Before I continue, if I don't keep this sled for the whole season, I promise to never sign on to Snowmobile Fanatics again.

I'm looking to update to a sled meeting the same criteria as 71rdrnr posted. I am also assuming that since this was posted in the Polaris section, the original poster is looking at Polaris.
Right now, the sleds I am considering are XC 600 and Fusion 600. Both would be a big update from my XLT, or 71rdrnr's RXL.

Tha F7 is an amazing machine not any faster than my xc700 but the ride is really smooth. I have not yet driven any of The newer Polaris sleds. But for the type of riding you described look for an 03 or o4 F5

Thanks guy,
Would a 700 be overkill? Could it cruse around at low speeds (40 - 45mph) for long periods or will it foul up. Don’t get me wrong I like the speed but that's not what I usually end up doing most of the day.
Also I am leaning towards Polaris because so far that’s all I Know. I will be spending some seat time in what ever I end up buying to get a feel for it.
Thanks for the input.

a 700 is a great trail sled and they cruise along just fine at slower speeds. All stock sleds will run beautifully at 45-50mph, its when guys pipe them and clutch them that makes them into beasts on the trail. I have a stock XCR 800, one of the fastest sleds ever built and I do 80% groom trail riding with the family. 45-50mph all day long...or slower if I want. But get on a lake or river...SEE YA!!

But for his type of riding he described he very rarely gets over 80MPH and my little 500 on the lake will do 90-95 so get a 500. Thats just my spare sled I use my 2006 polaris 750 turbo most of the time. You have to hold on when your driving that let me tell ya!!!!!

Oh, a Polaris 600 XC EDGE! A F6 wouldn't be too bad, but the EDGES were always blowing the doors off the Firecat. My uncle has never lost a race with his XC EDGE, and he's raced against every brand of 600. HIs sled is stock. But, I'm not trying to be offensive to Cat, cause if I'm not on a Polaris, I'm on a Cat. And, the Firecat is pretty nice.

I think I'm starting to lean towards a 600IQ LX or 600, 700 IQ or dragon.
At least I'm down to 3-4 models.

So, your '03-'06 model year range no longer applies?
