Quote originally posted by flatlander_summit Lastly, Matt I believe that you are abusing your powers as a moderator. You wrote in one of your original posts the speed that you were riding on the lake, but then wrote that if you find out it is illegal in a few days that you will edit the post. We are only given 30 minutes to edit a post, but you as a moderator are given as much time as you want to edit your post. That doesn't seem right to me. Supporting members can edit their posts with no time frame.. AND moderators have no time frame. Me editing out something in my post has nothing to do with me being a moderator. Flatlander.. you know what pisses me off the most? I could move 10 threads a day into their correct forums, edit 10 topic titles to be proper format (ie. WTB), write countless how-to's, write many ride reports, help countless members with countless issues (433 pm's alone online just helping people with issues), currently packing up an owners manual that a member on here needed for his torque wrench, buy tons of forum clothes/hats, do the SF hat deal for 80 hats, and do a million other moderator duties that are never seen or noticed.. but the second I say I am going to edit a post of MINE from yesterday.. then someone notices. Give me a break, seriously. I know how my bro feels as a cop now. Everyone hates you but the moment they need you they realize alot. If they spent one day in your shoes they would see alot they have not seen before. I guess it comes with the moderator title.. I am a big boy, I can handle it.. pick away. For those wanting the video. I have spoke with NYrider via PM and its a goofy format, he is uploading it and I will convert it after that, he was having problems with that part. Firecat59.. haha, dont worry, next time I will be prepared..btw my belt is fried. Went today to get it refunded but nope, poloaris wont warranty it. 300 or so mile son it and it's crap. Due to heat of course so they won't do it...Going to go with the Ultimax XS belt now.

Me editing out something in my post has nothing to do with me being a moderator.
I'm not usually one to want to pick fights on here. I tend to like to leave the drama up to those who are better at it and don't have anything better to do. Although you editing something in your post my not have anything to do with you being a moderator since others have the ability to edit their post it does show some hypocracy by you. You can choose to chasitise someone on the site in front of everyone, but until you didn't know the legality of your speed on the lake you thought about editing it out. No matter if you edit your speed you still did it.
Additionally, I believe your role as a moderator is on a volunteer basis and it's something that you wanted, I believe you even asked to be a moderator quite some time ago. When you say you know how your brother feels because he's a cop. I respect the hell out of cops until they give me a reason not to. Just as a moderator in a forum, an officer can abuse his or her power, then they lose my respect.

I bet there was at least a foot of ice on that lake. A truck probably could have drove right out on most of it. If you see slush/water just don't stop. Put her to the bar. Where we were was perfectly safe as far as I was concerned. If it wasn't I wouldn't have stopped there. I've been on numerous lakes and that one was very safe.
Here's a table I pulled off of the internet. Maybe this will make you all feel a little better.
Ice Thickness (Inches) / Permissible Load
2 One person on foot
3 Group, in single file
5 Group (6-8 people) together
7½ Passenger car (2 ton gross)
8 Light truck (2½ ton gross)
10 Medium truck (3½ ton gross)
12 Heavy truck (7 to 8 ton gross)
15 10 tons
20 25 tons
25 45 tons
30 70 tons

ACM, oneida lake, which you passed on your way up, is 23 miles long by 5 miles wide, way bigger than SRR/RR (where we were) and my dad was cutting 12-15" all day long. There was enough ice, dont be afraid grasshopper, all is well.
Firekitty, Boltzy say's he's going and he's running. $25 and a pic to prove your 18 is all you need for 3 runs at paradise, 900' uphill drag baby. Tank will be there i made the decision, new track and its getting parted out after, track will be investment for next year ;)

Since the ride, I've kind of been fascinated reading about the concept of when is it safe to ride a frozen body of water (kind of controversial) . . . I'd never really thought about it before. I'm glad I did not see this before, though haha http://forums.cottagelife.com/viewtopic....snowmobile
Looks like one sled needs about 5 - 6 inches to be safe, I wonder what 13 need!

I would really like to know who said that they saw me somehow cause ultraspx to go in the ditch. It doesn't please me when people lie, or when people throw my name in the mud without getting the facts straight. I was the 4th sled to arrive on the scene of that accident and I was the 1st or maybe second rider that jumped in that ditch to help.
Anyone gonna argue with me about those facts. You all need to get apologizing and publicly for saying I had anything to do with his crash. I have already apologized for the way I was riding which really caused no harm to anyone or their sled.

Worded that wrong. You'll forget about the speed of the triple and love the dragon. My 700 dragon switchy is slower than my trip trip but the ride of the dragon makes you forget all about the speed.
When hell freezes over I'll ride there too!!

Great reply.....coming from a Giants fan .....from a very sad Pats fan. I thought I'd just copy the best part of the link onto this thread and maybe another topic. Great info. I like the last line of it about drinking and driving a sled.
Facts And Tips For A Safe Season On The Ice
Here are a few general guidelines to lessen your chances for an icy dip or worse. It's impossible to judge the strength of ice by its appearance, thickness, daily temperature, or snow cover alone. Ice strength is actually dependent on all four factors, plus water depth under the ice, the size of the water and water chemistry, currents, and distribution of the load on the ice.
Wait to walk out on the ice until there are at least 4 inches of clear, solid ice. Thinner ice will support one person, but since ice thickness can vary considerably, especially at the beginning and end of the season, 4 inches will provide a margin of safety. Some factors that can change ice thickness include flocks of waterfowl and schools of fish. By congregating in a small area, fish can cause warmer water from the bottom towards the surface, weakening or in some cases opening large holes in the ice.
Go out with a buddy and keep a good distance apart as you walk out. If one of you goes in the other can call for help (it's amazing how many people carry cellular phones these days). The companion can also attempt a rescue if one of you are carrying rope or other survival gear.
Snowmobiles and ATV's need at least 6 inches, cars and light trucks need at least 8 inches and a medium pickup truck requires 12 inches of good clear ice.
Contact a local for information about known thin ice areas.
Wear a floatation suit or jacket. They provide excellent flotation and protection from hypothermia (loss of body temperature). Never wear a life jacket if you are traveling in an enclosed vehicle, however. It could hamper escape in case of a breakthrough.
Carry a pair of homemade ice picks or even a pair of screwdrivers tied together with a few yards of strong cord that can be used to pull yourself up and onto the ice if you do fall in. Be sure they have wooden handles so if you drop them in the struggle to get out of the water, they won¢t go straight to the bottom!
Avoid driving on the ice whenever possible. Traveling in a vehicle, especially early or late in the season is simply "an accident waiting to happen.
Be prepared to bail out in a hurry if you find it necessary to use a car, unbuckle your seatbelt and have a plan of action if you do breakthrough. Some safety experts recommend driving with the window rolled down and the doors ajar for an easy escape. Move your car frequently. Parking in one place for a long period weakens ice. Don¢t park near cracks, and watch out for pressure ridges or ice heaves.
Don't drive across ice at night or when it is snowing. Reduced visibility increases your chances for driving into an open or weak ice area.
Above all, avoid alcoholic beverages. Beer and booze increases your chances for hypothermia and increases the likelihood that you¢ll make a stupid mistake that will cost you or a companion their life

After reading this thread I think somethings should have not been said and there probably are some hard feelings.

Tank will be there i made the decision, new track and its getting parted out after, track will be investment for next year ;)
Thanks for backing me up on that one Brendan! I hope you guys win some races this weekend. I'd be there if my wallet was fuller!

^ oh you didn't need backing up TJ, I was just curious how you knew there was 12 inches.
Hell MDmaniac, we didn't have to tow you.. I guess you should have had your dad take the truck and trailer right out there to get you
