Last weekend I was on a lookout for a new truck for a b-day present to myself, and had $8300 to spend on a new truck. I found this truck in some old ladys driveway that my dad plows and when I went to pick up the check for plowing I asked her whats with the truck in the driveway? She said it was her sons truck that he abandoned when he moved out west. She asked me why I asked and all I said was, I was just wondering and she said she will call her son to see what hes going to do with the truck and she will call me if I was interested in buying it, so I said yeah im sorta interested. So I get a call in the middle of the week and she said she will sell it for $7000. I hop in my old jeep and head down there to just check it out and all it really needs is all new tires including spare, the center caps, rear brake pads, and an oil change. I asked her if her son was ok about selling his truck and she said yeah I talked to him on monday and hes ok with it. So I bought it, its a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD its got a plow, beacon, 6.0L V8, and 156,000 miles.
Do you think I got a good deal?
Here is a couple pics:
what do you think?

Nice truck. My brother in law had an 04 just like that one (except a crew cab) and he only got 12 mpg on the highway on a good day. No power to pull either. Took 3 miles to get a load of bulls up to 60 mph in a 20' stock trailer. But I'm sure he got a lemon cuz several times, if he wasn't pulling a trailer with electric brakes, he would of had no breaks and would of been in a wreck. He had it for a couple monthes and traded it in on a Dodge with the Cummins. Nice riding trucks. I have heard of several guys that love the 6.0.
I need big jugs on my sled, cuz my girl doesn't.

I think you got a great deal. My father bought an 02 new with the same motor for a farm truck. Only difference was reg and a stick. Its been a workhorse no problems what so ever.

Lots of Truck for 7K. Bit high on the miles but for a 2500 and 6.0, I'd say you got a good deal. Gas Milage is going to suck. You could shine it up a bit and make some $ off it.

thanks to all, yeah i only had it for 5 days so far and i can tell that its gunna suck on gas but its got some balls. I already towed a 6 place enclosed sled trailer full and it tows like a dream, you cant even tell your towing a trailer. This saturday im going to detail it and armorall everything and it should be good for a while.
The plow is in almost perfect condition (only plowed 8 times) the only thing with plow is it needs new wireing because salt got onto the wire ends and started to corrode the wires. I still havent got the plow yet its still in the ladys storage unit.
what kind of tires should i put on this truck? I want good all year tires but im undecided on which ones.

Ive been getting around 17 mpg around town and im kinda lead footed, does this seem right....? I found out that the kid programmed the truck with one of those handheld programmers, but all he changed was the tire size. Oh i was on the highway heading north and there was nobody on the roads at that time so i opened it up and when the truck reached 94mph the engine cut out, is it a chip or a problem? I know i shouldn't have been going so fast but thats besides the point.

156,000 is a lot of miles but a good buy none the less. Plus its a chevy so you can be confident that you made out all right lol. 01 and up chevys usually govern out at about 89-90 so 94 isnt bad at all.

Not a bad price at all! I had a 2000 Sierra reg cab, with the 6.0 and got 10mpg all day long, and at 172k I still got more on trade then your purchase price, so good job! How long has it sat though, since the son moved, it sat there. I would change the oil right away atleast.

Nice truck you have there. If you get 17mpg thats great for a 6.0. My truck is a 2000 2500 with the 6.0 and I get 10mpg all day long it might be a little better on the highway but I never checked.

04Prox2- i would like to tint but i dont have enough money right now but maybe this summer. i did clean it, it looks 100% better now. I dont like debadging trucks i just dont like the look.
Skipponator- It sat for 1 1/2 years, as soon as i got the truck in my name i changes the oil, oil filter, tranny fluid, and gear oil.
buckfever- Im thinking the only reason why im getting 17mpg is because of the programmer thing the kid did to it.
Thanks, Nick

I think that after the 6.0 was out for a while, GM tuned it better for better mileage. My 07 6.0HO was seeing 14 city, and up to 23HWY, and that was AWD! I am sure the tune helped. Yes if it sat for that long, definetly replace all the fluids!

Wow...17mpg on the 6.0. That rocks. With the plow you got a heck of a deal, even without the plow it would have been a decent deal. That 6.0 is a great motor, and the 2500's are beasts. Looks like a great truck man. My best friend has a 2001 Suburban 2500, and that thing has been beat on, but it is still running strong at 260000 miles!
