Two of my friends this year had studs ruin their tracks by pulling big chunks of the track out with them.

Anyone else have a bad experience with studs they'd like to share with us?

When I first got my FormulaIII, it had 144 studs in it. I had one of them rip out on the edge, thus ripping one side of the track to shreds. I was forced to buy a new track, and have never had a studded track since. My new SnoPro has studs in it now, but the track is about shot, so it'll be replaced this summer with a new, unstudded one.

I feel studs do have their time and place, but are not for me.

2006 Arctic Cat SnoPro 440/700 EFI
1998 Arctic Cat ZR 600 EFI Custom
1996 Ski-Doo FormulaIII 600

A mountain lion roaming the prairie found a bull, killed it and ate the entire bull. With a heavy belly, unable to walk, the lion laid in the tall grass moaning and roaring. Soon a hunter, attracted by the roaring, shot and killed the lion. Moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut!

Studs saved my butt once or twice, but have not caused any problems for me.
I like the advantages you have with not being studded also. It's one or the other, so I go with the saftey of studs.
