First off to get into asphalt racing on a budget its gonna cost around $500 to get started, if you really budget shop you might be able to do it for less, sometimes you can pickup a used track for as low as $100 but you get what you pay for, a good used set of asphalt ski's will run at least $150, brand new asphalt tracks can be found starting at around $400 and brand new asphalt ski's start at around $360 and go up to $600, you will also need to add extra wheels into the rear suspension if you are gonna use your stock suspension which is how I started out doing it,you will also need to build a cooldown to hook up to the sled to cool it down after you make a run, a cooldown can be pretty basic to elaborate depending on how much you have to spend on it, I built my own cart with a A-Coil from a home air conditioning unit, got a aftermarket automotive cooling fan and a 12 volt electric waterpump to make it flow, my cart worked out great and it will cool my sled down completely in 10 minutes or less, go to wahlracing.com and look at what they have to offer and this will give you a idea of the costs involved, there are some other companies also that exclusively make and sell asphalt racing equipment for sleds, some of the rear suspensions that they sell can cost up to $2000, I have been asphalt racing for 4 years now and I gotta tell you it will flat out just give you the RUSH of a lifetime going down the 1/4 mile on a sled, here are some pictures of my sled over the years at some of the dragstrips I have raced at, my wife also races and she loves it, she won't race on ice but when it comes to tar racing she's ready to go, the following picture are of both of us, the picture of me on my brother 97 XCR SP is the very first run I ever made on down the track, on that run I went 11:34 @ 113 MPH, my best to date on my Orange sled is 11:22 @ 113, my wifes best to date is 10:92 @ 117 on the orange sled also.
