Hey guys,
I have been wanting to replace my track with a longer track in 1.25" lug height. I was just looking on e-bay and found a used track that has 1.5" lugs will 1.5" lugs fit my 96 xlt special? thanks

You are going to need 8tooth drivers for a 1.5 track. If you buy a 1.25 then yes that will fit.

we just put a 1.5in on a 92 500efi sks this sled was designed for a 1 in track. It was a bitch to install we had to put the bearing on after the drivers was installed and layed sled over in bearing side to help support the track while installing the track. Then we had to squezze the track in there very carfully, so after 2 hours of coming up w/ new cuse words we got it in there . I would think a 1.25in would be easier but we did get the 1.5in in w/ 1/4in of clearance from the coolers. Ithought the 96 has a little more clearance ?
Xx we kept the 9 tooth bet the 8 tooth would of worked much better

Hello Everyone!

I am new to the forum and am hoping you all can help me! I don't know how to do a new topic... any help? So I am posting here.. SORRY...

I was cranking down the road on my 96 XLT(racing my hubby's Ultra) and about 110 when the belt shredded. I pulled over and we changed the belt but had a loss of power... upon quick inspection noticed that the exhaust on the 1st cylind. (it is piped) was not not producing any heat and the other two were hotter than can be. We have spark and when the pistons are moving well. Any suggestions where to go from here?

FYI - It was rebuilt before this season, bored out and new pistons and new oil injectors.

On a side note I did also notice that my fuel pump is not bolted on any longer... weird... just haning by the hose... and there is a little fuel spilled out around the area... could there be (grasping at straws here) an issue with gas getting all the way to that 1st cyl?

Thanks a TON!

A 1.5" will fit under a 96 XLT SP. Been there done that, you need to remove the tunnel protectors though. I have a really nice 8T nonslip setup for that sled if your interested!

Triplesounds, anything is possible. Check compression and your carbs, a belt shredding at that rate of speed can do anything!

on the bottom right of the Polaris forum page there is a button that says new topic. click it and you can add your own thread, probably won't get as many responses here.

this is going to be an over the summer project as here in central NY the snow has turned to rain. Do i need the 8 tooth driver to make that work, if yes how much does that effect speed?

Supposed to snow the rest of the week, where are you out of? Im in Oneida county.

You don't need the 8T driver setup, but when i added it, i was running a 136x15x1.5" and i was able to gear back up (more top end) i was seeing 95 all day long in the fields. The major problems with the stock drivers is they do allow the track to slip and ratchet, these things just took care of that. I have a lot of parts for that sled if your interested, PM me.

For a 1.5 track you will NEED 8 tooth drivers. 1.25 is tight with 9 tooth. You also have to remove the tunnel protectors unless the track is already notched, camoplast tracks are not.

No you don't. Been there, done that. 1/4" clearance all the way around. I still have the track to prove it. 9T drivers with the tunnel protectors removed, Un-notched track, Zero issues.

Monster, I LOVED the taller seat, it's a standard seat on a 2003-2004 Pro XR 440 Race sled. It was amazing in the trails, but i was running ape hangers, kind of a semi rider forward, I was able to ride with my keet under me like a quad, much better on the back. It's for sale

Fullthrottle, The drivers themselves will fit and i am about 75% sure the shaft will fit as well (direct replacement), uses the same speedo housing and bearing in the chaincase so it should be fine. Let me know if interested!

I call BS on that one... I ran a 1.5 track with 9 in drivers just fine.

Maybe there's more clearance then to the 96 xlt, we did it to the 95 and the track looked like it would hit the front exchanger. I guess not then.

On my 94 XLT I went to the 8 tooth drivers when I put on the 1.5 x 121, that way they were in there when I changed to the 1.75 X 136. I now have a 2" x 136. the 2" was a pain to put in but it clears, I had to remove the tunnel protectors for the 2". I would find someone who has an extra drive shaft and put the 8 tooth drivers on so its ready when you change the track out. nice to have all the parts ready to go.

Sweet! You'll like that track way better. When i put the 1.25" on my xlt it made a huge difference, now i went to a 1.5".
