I don't know how much your willing to pay but the 2008 polaris 600r is a "Ultra agresive bump-flying trail rider" says 2008 snowmobile buyer guide. Thats what I would go with but they are about $10,000 new. Polaris would proubly give you a deal scince your gonna race.

I know i dont race sleds cross country, but do race district quad harescrambles alot like gncc (grand nationa cross country) and reliability and good fuel mileage is more important than performance. I would keep this in mind when deciding which sled to buy.

micorps- hit the nail on the head. A 600 would be a great sled for cross country racing. The less fuel you need to take on in a pit stop means less time wasted. So get a sled that has a big tank and is good on gas. And the fact that 600's are great up to 100mph is a good thing as well. I would do allotof testing with suspension. Because the right suspension set up can make or break a race.
