Well the snow will be melting and spring time is approaching and I want to continue the snowmobile fun. I have a 94 Storm Triple Triple and having thoughts of drag racing it this summer. Never done it and not sure where to begin. I know I will need the asphalt slick track and roller skis, roller kits on the rails and make a cool down kit, tie the suspension down and such. I have enough friends with Polaris clutch parts we can try many different combos. My main concern is where to start jetting it at. I know I will have to lean it out, but do not want to go to far and have a very short season. I am going to retain the stock triple pipe set up. It will be more than likely bracket racing with speed and times not as important as consistency, but I am sure in the end I will want to go as fast as I can and get the best et I can. Just going to start out as low budget as I can. I am not going to go crazy with it though as I still ride it around on the snow in the winter. I may grass drag it this summer as well if I find any close. Any ideas or concerns i need to address feel free to post. my biggest thing is keep it low budget as I will probably end up at the track a handful of times do to my kids in summer sports and they take priority over all. Thanks Dennis My 94 Storm Custom Graphics My 94 Storm Custom Graphics My 94 Storm Custom Graphics My 94 Storm Custom Graphics I did say low budget thats way over mine. Nice sled though i am sure. just remember its all about fun. cheap is not a problem you can find a track for less the 200 skis usually kinda pricey 200 or more. remove the hi fax and add a few wheels. as for jetting, it all depends on weather just lean it down a size or 2. if youre going for max horsepower take it to the extreme edge of too lean. but for reliability. just drop 1 or 2 sizes and see how it runs. you already said enough that youre just a bracket sled, yes youre gonna want max top speed, but youll never compete with the big boys. i have way too much into my storm and i cant compete. its all fun. youre looking for optimum weight transfer. you dont want the skis to come up like in grass drags. just off the ground on the launch. also clutching and gearing is way different then grass. you dont want to come off the launch hard or youll break traction and you gear pretty tall. you have 1/4 mile to go not 660' or 500' like most grass racing. so agressive clutching is not required either. i recomeend like a thunder shift or heavy hitter weight system that is adjustable. pricey but many options.
couple things to remember, its all for fun, set a budget, but dont go cheap, that asphalt is gonna hurt if you end up hitting it. home made skis aint worth it imo.
you dont have to go extreme to have fun.

Thanks for the info. As far as jet sizes I want to keep it reliable. I don't want to toast the engine every time I go to the track. Good to know about the clutching and weight transfer. Yes I do agree cheaper is not always better. My budget is small and it is for fun only. I need to check into the local tracks rules for safety. I am sure a tether, leathers and a good DOT helmet are require and I have that already. My winter leathers should qualify. They will be hot, but if something goes wrong I would rather be hot and safe than cool and dead. One thing about it if I do get it set up and end up not liking it I will at least have stuff to resell when I am done. I am sure it will not compete with the big boys, but I have no intentions of doing so. Those guys who eat, drink and sleep racing can have the big bills I just want to have fun. The best thing about bracket racing is as long as you dial it in and cross the finish line first with out breaking out you win. Our local track usually has test and tunes on Friday night and race on Saturdays. I am in no big hurry to get it done, so I am going to keep my eyes open for the skis and track and go from there. just keep you eye out for good deals on the forums.
My skis dont lift a all in asphalt just straight forward. Grass I have them come up about 1 foot off the start then just hang over the grass the rest of the run.
I DO use the same cluching for grass and asphalt, but change the suspension set up and gearing and jetting.
Some nights I change the clutching based on the weather if Im tring to make my best pass ever.
