I am looking at buying a new labtop and was wondering wich one to get and what to look for. I would use it mainly for surfing the internet and watching a movie from time to time but i might cosider blu ray capable if its worth it?? I would like to keep the price as low as possible. I dont need anything blazing fast just quick enough to get around on the internet good.
I was wondering if I would be best of to just go and buy one from some place like best buy or order one from hp or dell. any input would be appreciated. Thanks

I love my Dell. I have the Inspiron 700m. It's small...12.1" widescreen...just over 4 lbs...literally a notebook sized notebook. Can do about everything except burn DVD's, which might change in the future.

I am slightly bias though. My uncle works for Dell...so I can always get my computer fixed for the price of parts if it ever crashes.

The only thing bad about Dell...is their tech department royally SUCKS! (Others on here can attest to that too)

A mountain lion roaming the prairie found a bull, killed it and ate the entire bull. With a heavy belly, unable to walk, the lion laid in the tall grass moaning and roaring. Soon a hunter, attracted by the roaring, shot and killed the lion. Moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut!

I'm kind of a computer guy, I don't care for Dell's due to their customer service. The have become the Big Box of PC's and it stops there (even being sold at Wal-Marts.

We have a Toshiba Satellite 205 series and have never had a problem. If you want to watch movies look at a 17" screen, they cost more but for viewing will me nicer if not a 15.4" minium.

I recommend 2 Gigs or RAM. Doubt you need a Blue Ray, too costly. The screens on laptops are smaller and you won't see much improvement in image quaility. A better video card will give you a better picture (and gameing capability) Definately DVD burner.

Look at Newegg.com for info and reviews. See what is on sale in the papers and research the model numbers. If the machine is loaded with Vista (which I like)... check to see what the "Windows Experiance Index" is. Its a rating on a 5.0 scale of what the computer is score is (CPU, RAM, Graphics and Hard Drive). I make sure its at least 3.1
