First of all, that '96 XCR600 sure brings back memories, first year Poo had CRC, xtra10, light weight a ripped down the trail, was a trail riders delight!! I would go with the Ripsaw 136x15x1.25 where you can screw in screws into the lug for extra bite, add the SLP rail extensions, that way you're not drilling into the tunnel with the full 136 rails and suspension, go down one tooth on the top gear, and let her rip!!!

Im not sure but on that sled you might have to drop a tooth on the driver if you want to go with a big lug.

he will have to define big lug......He can do a 1 1/4 with no problem but I don't think thats a big lug. Make sure you are in a big snow area or you might regret it. Or you will change hyfax often. I have a 1 3/4 on my SKS here in Michigan and I only ride that sled on fresh snow days or boondocking. Be prepared for more noise also....Big lugs are for DEEP snow...only good on the trails for burying your friends.

I recently went to a 1.4 inch 136 on my 96 XLT SP and could not be happier, other than the fact that I now have to get some more ski pressure due to the fact that it hooks so well and is always pulling one ski or both comming out of the corners. I did NOT have to change the drivers for it.

top gear in the chaincase right?just wanna make shure im correct when i do this.and i probably will go with rail extensions just to save some $$$.

im not lookin for a 2 inch lug or nothin but something bigger than stock.the snowfall around here is wierd we get alot of snow over a few weeks then it all melts away then 2 weeks later we get more and the process repeats.when i go of trail it slows right down and i want something trail friendly that i can aslo get into feet of snow with and not get stuck. i wanna be able to hang the ski's if i want and im about there with performance and clutching.now i gotta get my traction down. Quote originally posted by thewayout440

yeah ill give you a call when i do do it shouldn't take more than a few hours. does anybody know exatcly how the tunnel extension works?do i pull the seat and just rivet it on?or is there more to it?im taking it that the 96 xlt sp came stock with the 136?

Hey, when you take the older styled polaris like that you can have .25" bigger lug than u have stock. If you did go with a 1.25 then you deffinetly would not want to stud it. To big of a risk unless you want to spend money.
Good luck

dont know what the stock lug hieght is on this sled but the reason im going to a 136 is so i can play in powder.but still be able to hook up on the trails so i definatly want to stud the track.

Sure, he ran 1.5, sure, but you asked about studs. your going to be brushing your heat exchanger with the 1.5 on the xcr, you will have to run 8 tooth drivers. also, you will have to remove tunnel protectors, unless you are using a notched track. MDmaniac has the set up for you, and I am running a 1.5 on my 95 xlt xtra 12, i like it, but, it is too much lug for trail riding. and you will only annoy anyone riding behind you, tends to throw alot of chips back at them. if I was to do it over, i would run a camoplast ripsaw, studded, 1.25, x 136, with the 8 tooth drivers. my gearing wasnt to bad, but lost alot of top speed, but the torque is right there

well then i guess it's going to be a 1.25 studded track ill have to check with mdmaniac and see what he wants for his setup if he still has it.

everything is gone
1.5" track, get something with decent bite. used works well. go with tracksusa extensions, well worth the money.
you have to drill out the end cap for you tunnel now, and either rivet or bolt (recomended) in the new extension, its a 25 minute job. You wont have to change any suspension mounting locations or anything of the like, you might have to pull up your limiter straps a hole. while the skid is out have all the shocks rebuilt, make the ride 10x better. I would definetaly drop a tooth on the top (20T vs 21T) and have some fun. I was running a 20/40 combination, for a 1.95 ratio. stock is 1.86. Good luck and have fun!

Hope the following is helpful. I extended my suspension last year and kept some notes
(They are generalized somewhat)
Good Luck
Polaris Track Changing and Suspension Extension
1. Pull skid.
2. Remove oil from chain case through drain hole.
3. Remove chain case cover.
4. Loosen chain tension. Remove bottom gear and tensioner. (Apply brake while doing this).
5. Remove belt & Pull secondary clutch (don't lose the key).
6. Remove 3 bolts on speedometer cable and remove. You will see the bearing. Then get under the sled pull driver shaft toward clutch side, and then drop out the drive shaft.
7. Inspect suspension for wear (Hyfax/springs/shocks) – grease all fittings
8. Replace with new track/suspension and reverse above steps.
9. You will need a tunnel extension for the flap.
10. Grind/chisel rivets off old flap brackets – drill & rivet on new one

everything is gone
Good luck and have fun!
i am ging with the tracks usa extensions it will take me a good month or so to save up for the parts to complete the job.
what do you mean drill out the end cap??are you talking about the tunnel extension?
i will definatly drop the gearing down one tooth on the top.it will be a 20 right? Quote originally posted by cnelk

I rode a XLT with a 136 and liked it but the 1.5 is way to much for trail riding... Nice hook up though!
