RMR Central Semi Pro racer Robert Graeber was injured in the Pro Open final at McCauley Mtn. on Sunday. He sustained severe trauma to his back and neck and also damage to the aorta. Robert went through 12 hours of surgery on Monday and is stable at ICU at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, New York. Robert is expected to be in the hospital for more than a month with several months of recovery and rehilibration.
We have set up a Relief Fund for the Graeber Family to help them offset the mounting medical expenses. Please consider an offer of anything you can spare. Robert has a Paypal Account to make donations easier.
Roberts account is:
racerx84@mtaonline.net
Anything you can spare will help a huge amount.
Thank you all very much
Tom

Yeh, he lives up here and races RMR. He has really made a name for himself, he made it to the X games this year in snowcross. He also took state in MX last year to. Really a bad dituatuin that happened to him. Another racer pretty much cased his sled on him and tore completly through his tek vest. This is a small family here in AK who has a young kid out there making a name for himself, unfortunately the doctor bills for this are gonna really hurt the whole family. We are hoping there are some people who might be intrested in helping out. If everyone pitched in a little it would make a huge difference.

^ Thats sad. I hope the best for him.
Just wondering, how does a 17 year old kid live in AK and tour racing a sled all over down here? Its got to get expensive as all hell.

Robert is and has been a Factory Polaris rider for a couple years now, he has amazing talent and I hope he makes a speedy recovery.
Here are a couple updated I plucked off of his web site
To All, 3-12-08
I just talked to Jim Graeber and he said that Robert is awake!!!! YEA He wants his snowmachine, he says he needs to go race!!!! He moved his left knee is all I know so far. Chris is trying to rest right now she is pretty exhausted.
Robert is off the respirator and breathing on his own, talking up a storm. He has 2 plates in his neck, vertebrae have been fused in his lower back with pins for support, the stint in his aorta is working great and he should see no adverse effects from it. He will have surgery in the next couple of days to change the “sponge” on his back, he will have to go through this process 2-3 times before they can begin doing skin grafts. Time is still needed to know for sure the extent of the injuries to his spinal cord, it was NOT severed but did get damaged.
From Mom in Syracuse, New York 3-13-08
Robert is doing well today, he was a little nausea this morning from taking a road trip down to the 5th floor for a CT Scan. So they gave him some drug that knocked him out. He is out of the ICU and we are on the 8th floor now in the Pedeatric Ward in his own room. They let us use our cell phones and we are online now. I read alot of his e-mails this afternoon to him and he really likes hearing them. He's also happy because they have Mac & Cheese and a slurpee Machine on this floor.
He went into the O.R. at 5pm to change out his wound vac (sponge) on his back. He just got done around 7:30 pm( New York time) and the Plastic Surgeon was shocked to find it in such great shape. So he was able to stitch up the muscle layer and thinks that he will be able to remove the new sponge on Monday and stitch up the skin. So maybe no skin graphs. That was really great news.
Anyway keep up the e-mails he really loves hearing from all of you.
Thanks everyone,
Chris Graeber

Health insurance? I couldn't imagine racing without health insurance coverage. Before I had coverage through work I bought my own temporary policy.
I posted on a dootalk thread about him. What a bad deal!

As I'v said on other forums, it really sucks to hear about Robert being involved in such a serious wreck, I'v known him and his family pretty much sence before we were in preschool.
My prayers are out for Robert and his family, I hope he has a full recovery!
