if I were to extend the 121 track and rails to a 136 rail and track w/o putting a bigger motor in. I was thinking about putting a 1.5 paddle track on it to. Could I just put power valves and gear it down a little, or would the Polaris 500 not be able to handle it. Please help, I need to kno.

Your 500 should handle it, don't expect it to set a land speed record after though. I would get the VES top end and an AAEN pipe for it, will waken' it up alot.

ok then i belive that your sled doesnt have exhaust valves. if i was you i would do as DRIFTPOUNDER suggested and get the VES top end and the AAEN pipe. and if you have the money have some clutch work done and seeing how your not trying to set speed records i would gear it down as well.

no his doesnt have ves. i have heard ves will give a snowmobile 15% more horse power. I know the 99 xc 500 is capable of around 100. they are very fast and i can only imagine what it would be like with ves.

I owned a 2000 xc500 non EV. This sled stock puts out about mid 90's horsepower. Mid range pulls as good as most any 600, top end was also very good. My complaint was the bog on bottom end and they don't seem to produce power till you reach about 5,100 rpm. The VES top end should cure this nicely but the cost will be high. I was able to improve range of power band some by installing a boost bottle and boyseen reeds (V force reeds are better but more expensive) power band still didn't hit till about 4,700 to 4,800 though so I never cured it completely. I finally traded it off on a 700 xc. The only other caution I have is don't hold the throttle open too long in warm weather conditions as this engine didn't seem to cool that well and I had it sieze several times. cylinders are cast (not nicasil plated)and very serviceable though).
Good Luck

^^^^ mine does seem to have a slight bog on bottom end but not as bad as yours seems to be. anyways back on topic, if you really want more power you may aswell get a bigger engine. but if you want a little more to help move that 136" then a boost bottle will help if you dant have one already, i have one and my boots cracked this winter, so i took it off for a bit so i could keep riding. i really noticed it. clutcing will help out a lot to with accerleration, or what ever you want. i will hopfully be extending mine this summer and i am not worried about power from the 500.
good luck

Boost bottles do little to nothing for performance, all they do is equalize the pressure of the carbs, nothing more. Waste of money IMO. Your best bet is to clutch the 500 for the 136, drop a tooth or two as well. I am not good at clutching so I do not know the specifics.

Firecat59 I disagree. A boost bottle on a non VES domestic twin is almost a must as far as I'm concerned. They are the bigest single improvement you can make for under $50. For an Exhaust Valve engine the improvement is probably less.

you would be wasting your money on a pipe as money can be spent elsewhere for a better cause. jet, clutch and gear that sled while adding the 136 1.5 and hold on. these little sled have some good pull to them up to about 60-70mph
Before I continue, if I don't keep this sled for the whole season, I promise to never sign on to Snowmobile Fanatics again.

Maybe, my buddy that has a boost bottle on his sled has a 600 RMK, VES and he didn't notice any difference.

^^^^^^No that topend won't fit on your sled, you have a fugi 500 engine. the VES motors are the liberty, or domestic twin as they were called when they first came out, has a different case then yours. I don't believe they will fit.
As for how it works the exhaust ports on a non VES are a certain height for best use at all RPM ranges. When you change over to the exhaust valve cylinder the ports are taller making the most top end power, but the valve changes the height of the port as it opens. They open by using the exhaust gases and pressure. As it opens the port height is always at the best spot to make the most power. This curves the power band better and uses the engines usable power the best.

It should already be able to, but you may need to losen your limiter straps on the front of the suspenion, this will allow for the skid to flex more at the front and the skis will lift easier. With those mods it should have more then enough to lift them.

If he pipes it, he should see around 6 hp gain and with a clutch kit and a drop a tooth in his gearing should have a wild 500. I wouldn't play to much with the jetting, unless piping it, you might get something that run like no other but is on the edge of melt down all the time and isn't really all that usable.
As for a Boost bottle, I'm still on the fence, some sleds it does wonders to, and others are still dogs with it. I would suggest if you thinking about getting one find someone that has a used one for sale and ask if you can try it and see what happens. On a VES motor don't bother with the boost bottle I haven't seen one that made a difference.

here is a video of the one I did for my cousin last summer.
'07 XCSP 500 ( estimated stock hp = 105), most 500's came stock with VES after '00.
this thing only has:
MBRP can, which is claimed 2 ponys gain
SLP Airhorn claimed 2-4 ponys
some small clutching (ie primary spring)
suspenion tuning (limiter straps one size longer, springs turned down two sizes)
And a ton of stickers which should give it 150 hp if they don't keep falling, joking.
It is will work over most 600 and give a 700 a run for it's money. I think your long track kit will be pulled just fine with this stuff.

Are u sure a 500 could handle 144. Seems a like it might be a little under powered

With your 500, it will probably have a top speed of 70 after putting the 144 on it. You will have to clutch it and gear it so it will compliment the 144 track. You dont have to clutch it but if you don't it will be a dog.IMO
Droft pounder, that can did nothing for that sled. Just made it louder(which I like!) but the air horn could have made a difference. I do not know because I havnt done anything to a sled in the area of intake other than gut my airbox. Those ves 500's are fast. I thought I was racing a 600 one day when I came to school. Turns out both of my buddies have the same sled(2003 xc sp's) but one has the 5 and the other the 6. That 500 hung with my great until 60 but I was very impressed with that sled.

This is my 1999 XC SP 500, it is stretched to a 136 by 1.25, and i love it. I dropped the gears to from stock to 22 top and 41 bottom and man it gets up and goes, but i do have pipes and clutching and motor work and it is VES top end (which i suggest, and is a good power investment) Like what was said befor you will not set speed records but you will have lots of fun ditch banging and rippin up trails.
Hope this helps your choice.
