I have a '99 xc 700 and was thinking of removing the black paint from the tunnel. I want to polish the bare alluminum to give it a pro-x or custom look. Anyone ever tried anything like that? If so, how did it turn out?

i was thinking of that..i thought it would be a little tough...because the paint doesn't even come off after riding it for 10years...imagine trying to get it off it one day..plus i love the look of a black tunnel better.

I believe its powder coat not paint. Walmart and other stores handle aircraft stripper that works to remove it. I have been thinking of doing it also. I think Clouse2411 here did it last season and took some pics while he was doing it.

I did it once. It turned out really nice. I used aircraft remover, and then used steel wool, then never dull wadding. Shinned it up like glass. This is what the stipper looked like.

I did it. Its really simple. Just get some aircraft remover, take your seat and tank off. Pour it into a ice cream jug and get a paint brush. Brush it on, Wait about 10-15 minutes, then get a shop rag and wipe it off. Dont get it on your skin it burns like H&ll.
