Maybe some one can help. I just bought a 96 ultra replaced a set of rings in one cylinder, It starts well, but when it first starts, it runs up to about 3000rpm and then comes back down to normal. I do know some things about sleds but the triple I have never really worked with. It almost act like a bad oil seal and when you hit the throttle it alomost sounds like the plugs are fouled. Does anyone have any idea's. Thanks.

If the Sled has carbs then you may have to turn the idle screws. You Can find out how many turns by looking under the hood there should be a sticker saying various info

^^^ Check the boots for cracks, as well as the oil seal on the PTO side.

My XCR700 has essentially the same engine as that and is known for having a lean-idle condition. You can turn the air screws in which might make it load up, or swap one size larger on the pilots which works perfectly.

This wouldnt be an issue seing how the idle comes back down meaning the idle screws are set correctly.
Charger- most likely its a cracked carb boot or seal like these guys said, do you know how to test seals for cracks? If not I could walk you threw it. Its pretty easy to tell if a boot has a crack but theres a little test you could try for it to.

If I recall you can spray ether by the seal on the clutch side and if the rpm comes up that means a bad seal, is that right or have you heard of this? I don't know how to check the boots. Thanks for your help.
