well i dont think any of you know, but in october just befor sledding started i moved to ottawa to live with my gf and work. so i didnt get in any sledding this winter up un till the easter weekend. So i flew home to go sledding for 3 days did a bit of rididng and nothing broke on my sled but my buddies sled blew up...ofcourse this on the sunday so that was ok cause it was late afternoon. so we towed him home and he parked his sled for the season he went to town. i stayed back to ride for the rest of the day with his brother....well we ended up riding to the other lake called greenwater lake in ontario. we drove around on this like for like 2 hrs then we decided to turn around and go home, but me seing a nice bay just full of two feet of powder just wanted to go do some carving and stuff. so i went over there and on the very first carv i did was about 50 feet off the shore, and as i was making this carv i flet the ice breakin under the sled so i pinned it, but when i did that i fell of and ended up falling into th lake but luckley the sled had enough momentum to make it to the solid i cae and the skis held it up. so as this happend my buddie was around the other side of the lake and no one was there to help me. So then i remeber this article i read in a magazine about how to get out so swam to the edge of the ice licked my feet really hard and yanked my self out wow i got lucky so i quickly rolled over to my sled and hopped on it an pinned it to get away from the hole. then my buddie seen me all wet and stuff so he comes over and he asked what happend and i told him the story and he was like o my god you are so lucky. I was like this is deffinatly a sf story then we sledded back to my camp and i got warm and dried off and went back to town.

You are one lucky s.o.b. That was good quick thinking instead of panicking. You gotta be real careful on lakes, seems like you never know when your gonna hit open water anymore no matter what the temperature's been. You should have brought you're sled with you in the Ottawa area. We had record snow falls and accumulation this year. I bought a new sled in February and I already got 2300 kms on it which includes getting it stuck in the Alfred Bog for 4 days.
