I'm looking for some pics of the exhaust on a 440 BSE. I'm trying to build an exhaust for my 72 Puma with a 440 BSE on it but am having no luck getting it to work right. It runs great with a straight pipe or a car muffler hooked on it (I had to do something to keep it from driving the neighbours nuts while I was trying to get the belt lined up) but with the muffler off a 440 Jag that I have on it it works terribly and backfires through the carb really bad. As soon as I pull the muffler back off it works great. I assume it's a back pressure problem. I'd really like to try it out and get the bugs worked out of it before the snow is gone.

I had good luck with a pipe from an older Polaris that matches the engine size when I put one of those into a 76 Panther.

If I get to doing any better I am going to have to hire someone to help me celebrate.

It just happens that my brother has a 340 Apollo sitting in his yard so I tried the exhaust off it. I have to cut a hole in the body for it to exit through but it sounds ok and isn't backfiring with it. Best part is I don't have to cut the exhaust to make it fit.

I own two motoskis with BSEs. One has a crude exhaust looks like a small car muffler. The other is a tuned pipe - the sled is a grandsport 440. Glad you found an exhaust that works for you

Here's what it sounds like. I like the sound of it better than the sound of my old Futura.
