Today I decided to take my sled out after we got about 2 feet of fresh snow. I just was screwing around out back nothing too serious. My neighbor comes over for a while and we decide to start skipping a pond behind my house. Things were going nice and smooth it was pretty fun, One of those times I was getting ready to hammer on it and skip across and my damn dog runs right infront of me the same time i give er. I had to lift for a split second and that split second costed me. Sunk the damn thing nearly got hypothermia and the motor is all warped up and stuck. I really can't believe this, what i planned to be a few minutes of fun turned out to cost me big time.

yeah, it happens. not that mine is anything like yours, but I took mine out for "one last time" and found a barb wire fence to scratch the hood up with. Bad thing I was planning on spending the summer making it "cherry".

Sh!T happens I guess- what else can you say

What do you mean all warped??? You can sink a sled change the fluids pump the motor and you should be good?? I also would take the seat off and bring it in to dry so it doesnt freeze like a brick

Motor sucks in water when its hot, melts the pistons and twists the block and rods.

YEAH, i know how you feel. My sleds totaled as well.

But if he got water inside he could have hydrosiezed it and then he could have bent the piston rods and meybee brake the crank.

Melt the piston to the cylinder because of instantanious cooling.

Water-Xer's go down everyday and suck in water then pump it out. unless the sled went in at full throttle and stayed full throttle he should be ok.

Green change all the fluids first, flip the sled on the side pull the plugs and keep on pulling it over untill its dry or a mist is just barely coming out. Then flip it upright and connect the plugs and fire it up to burn out any more water. The sooner you do this the better. If it sits for a couple days with water in the in it,the rings can rust.

When i get over there and try it out hopefully i can get the sled at least running. It's an EFI all that electrical crap could be damaged i just dont wanna think about it. I've been leaning towards selling the sled for a while now maybe i should. Needs a new track the ski's are worn out the seat is ripped up the hood is attached by zip ties, now the motor is screwed up at the moment, i think it would be for the best if i part it out and get what i can out of it.

they water-x efi sleds too! It does sound like the sled has seen better days. Maybe you should just turn it into a Water-x sled or drag sled.

Greenmachine - Listen to Achotrod. Even if you plan on getting rid of it, that sled won't be worth squat without it running, especially when you say you sunk it. The engine will be fine, I can't say for sure on the electronics, but Achotrod seems pretty confident.

Sinking a sled doesn't warp anything. The only thing it will do is start to rust if you let it sit.

EFP - I wish I could remember what video it was, but anyways they sunk the sled, pulled the jugs, drained the water and had it running by that night.

I happened to have this video on my external. Proof that you can sink a sled and have it running in due time...

(I don't think they sink a sled until about the 2:00 mark)

2006 Arctic Cat SnoPro 440/700 EFI
1998 Arctic Cat ZR 600 EFI Custom
1996 Ski-Doo FormulaIII 600

A mountain lion roaming the prairie found a bull, killed it and ate the entire bull. With a heavy belly, unable to walk, the lion laid in the tall grass moaning and roaring. Soon a hunter, attracted by the roaring, shot and killed the lion. Moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut!

^ Not the video I was thinking of, but that just proves Achotrod's method will work even more.

There was a Snowmobile mag. that just had a topic on what to do when a sled sinks.

A lot of info in there.

Most inportant was take care of it Right away, the longer it sits the bigger the problem gets.

As long as you turned it off before it went under you should(?) be O.K.

when we go water skipping and someone sinks we can have the sled running within a half hour. just like said before, pull the plugs, tip the sled on it's side and pull over until no more water shoots out, put plugs back in and let 'er rip! just make sure you get as much water out as possible and if its in the tank drain your gas too.

When I started to go down, I reached for the key as fast as I could and shut it down, (no kill switch) The sled was dying as it sunk. Quite a bit of water got in there, I pumped as much as i could of it out last night till it was barely misting from the cylinders. I'll get to work on it when i get back home and see what I can do. Once i get it running though im definatley putting it up for sale.
