We are going out to the Snowies this weekend and before I do that I plan on fixing my rear truck shocks. They have been leaking and it wasn't affecting the ride before but I've begun to notice the back end bouncing more and more so I figure it's time to get them replaced. I don't want to wear out my springs on the truck any worse and I'm positive I will by pulling a four place trailer loaded with snowmobiles. I'm doing my own work on these because it seems like pretty simple and its only four nuts and bolts. I'm more athletic than mechanical but have been doing my own maintenance with my truck such as changing the oil and gas filters and various other things. I've talked to the local dealership and they want around $70 dollars for the chevrolet ones but don't think that I'll be buying those. I'm looking more toward aftermarket shocks because I've heard that they are just as good if not better than the stock shocks. I know that a lot of people on the site are mechanical and know enough about this to head me in the right direction. I don't want to hear from the high school kid who thinks he has learned enough in shop class but more so from the mechanic or older, wiser generation. No disrespect to those who may be knowledgeable and young but I take pride in my truck since I've worked hard for it. I'm looking for good, dependable, but not the most expensive shocks in the world. Any help wold be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Truck: 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71 4X4
Note: I want something that will keep the ride similar or better to the Z71 shocks.

I used to have Rancho shocks all around on my '95 F150. I thought they were a decent shock. As all things do, they eventually wore out. I needed a pair in a pinch, so I ended up with Monroe shocks all around. They seem like an ok shock for the money, but I did like my Rancho's better. That's about as far as my two-bits goes.

A mountain lion roaming the prairie found a bull, killed it and ate the entire bull. With a heavy belly, unable to walk, the lion laid in the tall grass moaning and roaring. Soon a hunter, attracted by the roaring, shot and killed the lion. Moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut!

I'd go with Rancho's as well. They are good shocks. I put a set on my 98 Siverado and am very happy with them.

What are the approximate prices off hand if you guys would know. I can't spend a ton of money on them being I'm a broke college kid! Gotta save some money for my trip this weekend as well, so I'm trying to budget myself.
