I read in one of your other posts that your sled is a 96. There were 2 XCRs that year. Is yours the white xcr or is it an XCR SP with dark metallic paint. Either way, considering what you paid if it even runs and the track is in one piece, you got a deal.

The white one is a wedge and is a good handling chassis. That engine would be a monoblock, non-case reed inducted, with a single pipe. Somewheres around 95-105 hp I think Very good reliable sled and pretty fast too. Best bang for your buck is a clutch kit and aftermarket pipes.

The XCR SP is what they call the aggressive chassis and is sometimes referred to as a Sherman Tank in certain circles. Its faster on top end than the wedge xcr, and thats about it. The motor puts out a little more top end hp that the wedge by about 10-15 horse. I think its like 115 hp compared to 105 or so in the wedge. Also a very relaible sled.

If yours is the SP then there is a little more involved in tuning it in. There are several writeups on tuning this sled on SF. But the same rules apply. Clutch kit and a set of aftermarket pipes esp on this sled work wonders. This engine has great potential to make a lot of hp.

Good luck

Forgot to mention my ride

1998 XC 700
V-Force Reeds
clutch kit: 64g weights with EPI red primary spring, 50-36 SLP helix with EPI purple spring
M10 rear susp
144 studs
2in bar riser
hooked handlebars
cobra windsheild
Stud Boy duece bar 6 in carbides (best investment ever)

I have a ripsaw track and 144 new studs I havent had a chance to install yet.
Still looking for a used aftermarket pipe. But I bought a house a few weeks ago so no more "extra" money for a while.
