What was going to be a simple gear swap tonight turned into a major disaster. Pulled the tensioner out of the case, which is only supported by one post, the chain and adjustment bolt. Nut holding the top sprocket on was at some mammoth torque like everything that hasn't already been taken apart on this sled so had to get a ford wrench and beat on it to break it loose. That went good....until the ford wrench tapped the post the tensioner sits on. Snap...there goes the post.
Talk about being pissed off. Here is the good part...looking at the break in the case and post, about 2/3s of it is oil stained and the other 1/3 fresh break. That means this post has been cracking for awhile. So now, 1 day until the weekend and stuck with a busted chain case. Going to have to ride the X2 and I have my buddies with connections looking for a demo for me to get ahold of. I highly doubt any dealers have an entire half a chain case since they don't even carry screws that hold the side panels on.

Oil lubed bearing.
The chain case housing is made of magnesium....I have a feeling you would just start a small uncontrollable fire if you tried to weld it.

JB Weld!!!!! ha but that really sucks, kindof like stripping out one of those 1/4" chaincase bolts on the poo the night before the weekend....atleast you have a decent backup!

from my understanding magnesium can be welded as it many many of the same properties that aluminum does. if anything i would just do a little research because i think you can TIG weld it and remember to wear a mask as i beleive magnesium gives off a toxic gas. sorry to hear about your ****ty luck, im in the same boat as you right now as my tensioner post has snapped..

Just a thought but.....
Epoxy the post in place just to hold it there. Then redrill and tap the hols thats already down through the center. That should hold pretty good I would think. At least get you through the weekend.
I fix it nice, cause I fix it twice!
