Here is what I woke to this morning when I went to start my sled to go to work this morning. There is not a single truck on the roads today as the snow is too deep and everyone is getting stuck. Just about everyone has their sleds out so people can get around town
 Knock Knock...
The really tradgic part to this story is that my 700 is down for the count and I don't know when I am going to be able to fix it

Haha, that's pretty awesome....open the door and you're not getting anywhere fast. I also love the imprint of the door in the snow.

G-Man I thought you would have that 700 back together by now. Wasn't it about a month ago that she blew? What do you have for industry in Kugluktuk? How long are your summers? about 2 weeks! LOL

The sad part is I had the sled rebuilt last weekend! I forgot to hook up the oil injection lines to the carbs on her first voyage. The ride lasted 5 minutes before she seized up solid. The other sad part is, I was going to enter into the big Drag races we have here every year. But she blew the night before .So ya, a bit of stupidity can make a very bad outcome. The summers last about two months then it is back to winter again Man I love living here! But the funny part about this weather we are having is that this stuff (Blizzards) are not supposed to start till next month. Well I guess were are going to have an eirly spring. Ther is not much for indestry her, mainly Government agancies. There are a few Dimond mines not too far from here that hire alot of locals. Pretty much all of the Canadian Dimonds you see around the world come from this region.

we still have 10 feet to ride on but you gotta go up to like 5000 feet to find that much and considering were at the lowest point in montana thats a ways up there we got more snow here than the 96-97 season 160 + inches here at the house and up at the resort in whitefish they recorded over 30 feet of base
im not here to make friends, hate me all you want im not leaving.

Well if I knew I was going to get blasted for showing pics of snow then maybe I should have kept it all for myself I am going to send my cynlinders out to be bored and plated some time this week, so that I can get out and ride. We have another monthe before we can't ride so at least I might get some seat time on the sled. Oh ya about elevation, ya I'm at sea level, siriously the Arctic Ocean is just down the street about 500 yards from my house.

holy crap.. I just googled your location for the first time. I went to calculate driving time and it couldn't do it. Only way to get to your little town is an airplane. Your a school counsler? There is a school in that little town? It looks like a population of 1,000.
Does the snow ever thaw?
what the hell are you doing that far north gman.. I didn't even know people could live that far north

Yup, gatta fly everywhere. That is why I work part time for an airline as ground crew so I can get cheap tickets out of here. I have lived in the north most of my life. I am an Inuk (Northern Aboriginal, or Eskimo). Yes this is a small town we have about 1400 people here. There are two schools. I work in the high school which is grades 7-12. life is good here. I can ride from my door to anywhere in town on my sled. I can go hunting whenever I want (Or have time) We have pretty much all of the ammenities that most southern cities have, just on a smaller scale. I am good friends with pretty much every person in town. Litterally evry person in town knows my name what I do and who my parents are. This is my home town and I moved away for a long time, I saw the world and now it is time to settle down with my family and enjoy life. Oh and plus we have snow 8 out of 12 monthes of the year so that is a big bonus.

Out of the 1400 people that live here (The article you were reading is old) there are about 150 students and 12 staff.
I was wondering, why is it a weird situation?
It is like any other rural community in the south, it's just that you can't drive here. But in alot of ways it is allot different then any other place in the world. But in a good way. We are not troubled by hard drugs or high crime rates. Ya an occasional drunken brawl will break out or a sled will get stolen, but is no where near as bad as other places around the world. Things are more expensive here as well. But our pay is higher to compensate so it is all good. It is justdifferent not weired.

^ That is what I ment.. Different. Looking at the map it looks like 1400 people surrounded by nothing forever.
The nearest town is how many miles away?
Do you guys have your own power station? Landfill? Hospital? How do they get cars and snowmobiles there? Just boats in the summer months? Does ups/fedex/usps/canada mail fly in daily? Internet hookup must be satallite I am assuming?
Gas only comes during summer? One gas station? Any cell phones? Physical size of the town? If you can't get a snowmobile part locally how long does it take to get there?
Sorry for the many questions. I am very curious and interested.

If global warming was real, how could you not like it. I always say "living in Northern Minnesota its hard to be real concered about global warming" G-Man I did hear the arctic ocean opened all the way from Atlantic to Pacific for the first time last summer. Was That true? What are your thoughts on global warming? Is their a town close enough to destination ride to or do you have to make loops out of Kugluktuk? Bushwacker
