Alright guys. This is my new summer project. I am going to take my dealerships old gas golf cart and turn it into a beast. I am probably going to buy a cheap 500 Polaris twin (has to be liquid cooled) and put it in the cart. (I even thought about a 600 triple, but I would probably die). I am going to put ATV tires on it and raise the suspension. Do you guys think this is realistic? The engines work the same way, I thought it would be fun.

Sleds owned and own:
1997 Indy Storm (Stormy)
1994 Arctic Cat 550 EXT (backup/buddy sled)
1996 XLT Special (Sold)
2000 Indy 500 (Sold)

Realistic, oh yeah....

The most important thing is to have a smooth running engine. Believe it or not a fan cooled will actually run cooler than a liquid cooled too. I first used an old sachs 440 engine. The old sachs didn't run smooth at all and kept rattling bolts loose so I had to scrap it for a smoother running engine.
2nd engine I used actually worked the best. Polaris 488cc fc, ran very smooth and cool. Once I got everything dialed in with the 488cc engine I decided to try more power so I swapped engines again.
3rd engine 400cc liquid cooled engine. I cut out the back part of the cart where the clubs would go for airflow and mounted a radiator from a geo metro. I also tried with 2 heater cores side by side but that didn't run as cool as the radiator did. The engine ran very hot and I ended up swapping back to the fan cooled engine. I don't think there is room for a triple only because of the exhaust, that is what stopped me from putting my 650 in.
Once you fab an engine mount it's pretty simple bolt in and go. I had to reshim the original golf cart secondary clutch to accomodate the wider drive belt but that was all. Clutching was pretty tricky and I ended up keeping the stock weights and spring in the primary clutch. I could pull the front tires on a hard take off if the tires grabbed. It was alot of fun lol. I raced a Yamaha 180cc dirtbike and embarrased him, I don't ever let him forget that a golf cart stomped his arse.

When hell freezes over I'll ride there too!!
