I would like to get a set of rebuildable shock for my 01 rmk 800 and i have seen a few sets out there but are the shocks from all of the gen 2's the same? I found a xc 500 that a guy is parting out with rebuildable shocks but are they the same thing? front/rear?

The only difference i can think of is the length could be different.

The shocks on the xc should be shorter then the shocks on your rmk, meaning they wont work.
however you can double check by messuring the distance from eye to eye on your shocks and asking for messurements from the xc. But Im pretty sure the xc shocks are shorter in length.
98.5 rmk/xc- 99 rmk bulkhead/tunnel, 99 xtra-10 with ad boivin ETS, xc fox shocks in front, fox shocks rear, 98 700 w/ 220's, 121/1" track, 3" riser, skid plate, 41/21
99 rmk7- 136/2" track, SLP boost bottle, SLP can, 5" fly risers w/ all the goodies, xc front fox shocks, fox shocks in rear, 98 seat, skid plate, 41/21, all black

do you mean the fronts you think are shorter or the rears or both. I am lazy and don't want to have to tear my sled apart but i found a smoking deal on some shocks and i would like to replace all 4. I guess i can measure if i have to but ya know how it is...

Probably both. The RMK has more travel (i think) And is higher than the XC. So they will be longer. If its like an inch(i don't think it is) then you might be able to squeeze them in.
Any other questions?

Your RMK has 12 in of travel and a 99' xc 500 only has 10.2 " of travel. I am sure the both shocks in the rear of your sled are longer then the xc shocks. however the xc front shocks are longer then your RMK ones. I have no idea weather you can stuff a shorter shock into your suspension, but I wouldnt want to run it that way even if I could stuff shorter shocks on it.
