This article got me going this morning as I think there are alot of false statements in it. What do you guys think ?
http://biz.yahoo.com/brn/080502/25295.html?.v=1&.pf=family-home

My girlfriend did just about what that article is using as an example. She was using a 16 mpg vehicle to go to and from work 1 hour round trip a day. She traded it and got a 30 mpg (or more) car.

She now uses 1/2 the gas she was and has a new vehicle.

What the article is missing is that sure, if you trade it in your getting payment back but your getting a NEW VEHICLE also.

The largest savings comes into play when you park the gas guzzler and get a cheap car that doubles your mileage. The car pays for itself in no time in fuel costs and you keep them miles off your nicer thirsty rig and that is also worth something.

My sister managed to get a NEW car for 200 a month. She said driving that car vs her gas guzzler is saving her family that much a month in fuel (the live in BFE) AND keeping the miles off their nice new gas guzzler.

Of course if your like me and others I know and spent 2-3,000 on a cheap gas saver, your in the money.

Yahoo articles make me laugh at times.

I can buy alot of gas in my trucks for the $10-$16,000 purchase price and the added maintance + insurance cost.

I will continue to run the v-10.

that is what people dont understand. we are looking at an suv for a next vehicle, you can get a very low mile 1-2 year old for 15 grand and still has warrenty. and that is less than 300 per month payment.
a new prius or jetta diesels are almost 30grand. now you are looking at a 600 dollar a month payment to save 100 dollars a month in gas.

or if you trade in a vehicle thats paid for. it is still cheaper to drive a 16 mpg vehicle than buy a 60 mpg vehicle.
