well i was going to get the RXL but it didnt have a key so the mechanic disconected it than after pulling for about 20mins i remembered it was an EFI and the pump wouldnt engage without the key turned on so i told my dad to tell him today and he says it doesnt matter if the key is hooked up or no so whoes right??

on my 92 indy 500 efi im pretty shure you need a key. As you had to turn it from off to on and then go over to start on it as it would then prime the injectors or something. When it was primed there was a light that came on in the console that said ready. Then it was ready to be started

most non electric start snowmobiles used an ignition switch with two wires. One went to ground and one went to the CDI. If the two wires are connected (key in the off position) the CDI wire will be grounded and therefore no spark. If the key is in the on position then the wires will be disconnected and there will be no ground to the CDI so there will be spark. That's why when you disconnect the ignition switch the engine will start. The RXL used a switch which did this also but there is two additional wires on an RXL ignition switch which must be connected to supply power from the battery to the EFI system in order for the engine to run. The kill switch also works the same way.

you don't need a key to make it run. all you need to do is unplug the harness off the back of the switch, and remove the ignition replace it with a momentary push button switch and conect i think it is the yellow/black wire and the brown wire to the switch. when turn on the switch you should hear the fule pump run for about 5 secm, then it should run. i never had a key for my 500 efi sled and it works fine, all the switch is needed for is to activate the ecu.

If you can't fix it then get a bigger hammer

Why not just get a key? I think theres only 5-6 different polaris keys... besides the vintage ones. I used to have every key for newer polaris sleds. The way to tell the difference between keys is the amount of dots it has.
