Hey i just picked up a 95 500 indy efi sks, its really clean with only 1500 miles on it. I havn't taken it out yet but the previous owner said it would cut out sometimes when he was climbing. He thought it was an injector and told me that it had sat for awhile b4 he got it. I got this sled in a package deal with 2 other sleds 94 indy 400 and 72 cat panther, that all run for 950. Is it worth keeping and fixing up or should i get rid of it with the other two sleds?

Well that depends on if you want it. They are a veery nice sled if you understand EFI. It is a matter of preference , will you be happy riding it or will you want something more up to date. In my opinion there's a lot of fun there for a very low investment. The cutting out when climbing (hill ?) does not sound like an injector to me , possibly a partially clogged fuel filter or obstruction in the fuel line which can not supply enough fuel when the demand is high. The 500's have been known to have the fuel line inside the fuel tank deteriorate. Of course this is just a guess based on only the one symptom.

how would i convert it to carbs? I was thinking something with the fuel lines might be messed up. I have a 95 ski doo 670 with a 144x2 track on it and it does good in the pow and up hills. but its pretty much the first sled i owned. So im not sure if the 500 with a smaller track is going to take me where i want to go like the 670?? anyone have a comparision on the two? can i put a 144x2 track on the 500? or should i sit on the sled till winter sell them all and upgrade to anthor sled that has a 144 or bigger track? I like to snowboard and sled so a sled that is a good climber is a priorty. thanks for the advice.

Don't convert to carbs. The efi system was good, just very misunderstood. Most of the components were very robust and seldom failed. Most problems are easily fixed if you understand the system and know how to diagnose it properly. Usually it is a small cost to fix like repairing a broken wire. The problem people seem to have is finding that broken wire. Read up on the system and learn how it works. Normally it can be repaired for a fraction of what it would cost to convert. The problem is when people start to replace components without being sure they are no good in the hopes of fixing a problem. The parts are not cheap and you will be poor very soon using that approach. People get frustrated but as I said the key is to learn all you can about how it works. It's actually a very simple EFI system easily diagnosed. You will need to know how to use a multimeter and also a fuel pressure guage. There are several people on this board that know this system and can answer
any questions you may have.

Sounds good, do you know if i will need to buy a shop manuel or are there websites with good info on these sleds? Im taking it up this weekend so ill report what i find out with the sled. First off i found out its a 93 not a 95. And i think the 400 is a 80s model not a 94. But still i dont think 950 was a bad deal for the sleds. Thanks for the advice!
