Question for all the hunters on here. I'm looking to buy a nice lever action 22 this summer. Wondering what guns you could recomed? Most 22 lever action's I see have a straight stock. I don't want a straight stock, it's gots have the little buldge on the bottem. lol You can tell I don't know my terms very well. But yeah, wondering what kind of gun you would recomend for just hunting small game. Looking for one under $250.

Here's the style stock I DON"T want.

And the style I do want.

the second image you posted has more of a pistol grip than the straight stock grip like the first gun. i would say look at either remington, weather bee, or winchester. it's all on personal opinion and prefferences

Owning a race sled is like having a totally hot girlfriend..... All of your friends want to see it, feel it and check it out..... They all want to know what it is like to ride it, but if they only knew how much time and money it takes to keep one up, they would call you a fool!

Yeah it doesn't need to have that much of a pistol grip, I just posted that pic so you all know sort of what stock I'm looking for.

Could you post pics of a specific gun? or a link to one? I'm also thinking of going with a como look. But I can't seem to find any good sites with them.

I think you should get something a bit more powerful. Like a 223, cheap ammo and a very good caliber.

here's a henry for 230.00 buy it now through gun broker you have to have a FFL so a local dealer may be able to help you out on that part for a small price and transfer of ownership. To say that "you won't find one for under 300.00" you may be right you may not find a new gun for under 300.00 but you can still find slightly used or used guns for under 300.00, there are deals all over the place, you just have to look for them. granted the gun isn't going to be in like new condition for those prices but what do you expect your not going to be buying new.

Yeah right. I could go to our hardware store right now, (well not right now, it's midnight here) but I could go there as soon as they open and pick up a 22lr for $170. Not sure what brand it is, I haven't spent much time looking there yet, but I did see a bunch there, all for under $250. I just want to make sure I buy a good one. $300 is WAY WAY to high for any normal 22. Anyway around here. I know you can get them for as high as $1000. But the average 22lr that everybody around here has is around $200.

I don't really need anything bigger than a 22. I'm not a real hunter really, I just hunt small game. Like muskrats, beaver, rabbits, cyotes, and some birds. Don't need anything bigger than a 22 really. But if I were to go with something bigger I might look into a 17.

Thanks. Around here you have to have what they call an FAC. But I don't have mine yet. They offer the course in school for it, but I homeschool, so I have to go take the course at the local collage here, then I'm set to go shopping. But I think I will be buying local, if they don't have the gun I want, I'll get em to order it.

Rev500ss did you about as solid as it gets. Not only did he find one but he gave you a link to it. The Henry's are very good guns and the price is fair. If you are talking small game only, the Savage o/u .22/.410 or 22/20ga. are great but you have to learn to shoot well as they are single shots. Good luck.

Winchester, Remington, and Weatherby don't make lever rifles, anymore at least. Winchester used to, but they discontinued them a while back. I think your best bet is to go with a Henry. It doesn't have a pistol grip and it's a little more than you wanted to spend, but I haven't heard bad things about them. http://www.henryrepeating.com/h001_leveraction.cfm They are also made in America which is a plus. Here is a marlin M39A. http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/2...en39A.aspx It's a little bit more like what you wanted, but I know it will cost more. You could also go to some gun shops and shows and look at used stuff. Around here .22 are a dime a dozen, but lever actions are not that common. Have you considered semiautos, bolt guns, or slide actions?

Thanks for all the links and info everbody! Gives me somemore stuff to think about.

Thefastman, I have concidered the other types yes. But I just prefer the lever action. Bolt action is to slow loading for me. And I'm left handed, so I need a left hand gun then. Semiautos have a tendency to plug. At least the ones I have had anythign to do with. I just want a lever action, just me prefrance I guess.

My dad bought me a .22 Henry lever action when i was 5. I got a scope last year. It is a great little gun. It is accurate with and without the scope. But i've never shot anything other then cans, doors, and wood with it.

I have a Browning lever action model BL-22 it's the sweetest shooting little gun I ever owned and thats saying alot. It never jams even with duds yes they do occur if you shoot enough, plus there is no finger pinch with the lever. all in all probably the best gun you could buy for the money. Also very light even fully loaded if that is a concern.

Can I ask why your set on getting a lever action?

I Have a semi-auto Ruger 10/22 and I love it. If I remember right the gun, scope, mounting and bore sighting was about $225.

I'm not super set on one. I just like them better. But If I find a good deal on a semi auto I just might go for it. Bolt action is out of the question though. I'm left handed, so it makes it hard to find a left hand gun. And I just can't get used to a bolt, just don't like em. But that's just me I quess.

I'll get some pics of my Ruger tonight for ya. A few of my friends owned the same model before me and they all loved the 10/22 also.

if your not set on a lever action this is my current choice for .22LR its a marlin model 7000 with a micro-groove barrel it has a 10 round clip and can be easily fitted with a scope, the price is very reasonable on them as well
