I used to work in a body shop for a few years. It all depends on what kind of quality you want when you are finished and how much you want to spend. You can wrap up $300 real quick in buying supplies at an automotive paint store. I would recommend a base/clear coat or an acrylic enamel. I would also add a flex agent as well. You will definitely need some primer surfacer otherwise you will see all your sanding marks in your finish. I have always used PPG and they have a "Shopline" product line that is a little cheaper. I have heard good reviews but have not personally used it as it is fairly new.
What grit are you sanding with right now? Typically sand surface down to base material, fill in necessary areas with spot putty, primer/surfacer, block sand with 220 grit, another coat of primer, wet sand with at least 600 grit and maybe finishing up with some 800. Then spray on your top coat.
You might want to stop in an automotive paint store and price out what you will need. It may be cheaper to just take it to a body shop and have them do it, so you might want to get some estimates.
