Alright so today we're filmig with a new camera, a hard drive one. Buddy sends me a disc with all the footage on it. It played on WMP but you have you like tell it to. "which program do you want to play this with: paint WMP, blah blah blah...so i went on all the shots and went to properties and switched over "opens with" so now when i click on the file which is one shot of a jump. It plays right on WMP, but it wont go on windows movie maker. anyone have an idea? i tried the video converted someone recommended to me like a week ago. It worked for other video files but when i go to add the video to the converted it doesn't show up in my documents.

I'm swampped!!!

please help

thanks a million
james

Forgot to mention the it says the type of file is "Movie Clip"

well first part of the battle is to find out what type of file it is, do you know what model it was? also you can try to convert it with a program called super, it will convert a good number of file types. if super doesnt work you will need to know the file extension and find a converter for that type.

we just got a Panasonic hd-sd9 hd camera and i am having one heck of a time trying to find a program to edit.

what did you use for the output container and what codec, it says in box 1 and 2 two at the top. also under that what bitrate does it say? a good high efficiency output container and codec combo is to use a mp4 container with the h.264 codec, the bit rate depends on what the source file is and what size you want to output. the higher the bit rate the better the quality to a cretin point, but it also makes the file larger.

do you know if the camcorder was HD? if not you should be able to use a resolution of 720x480, which is a common resolution on cameras. if its an hd camera you can use 1280x720 or 1920x1080, but if you use the 1920x1080 you need a power house computer, or a new video card that is hardware hd compatible to play it smoothly.

if you use the 720x480 resolution try a bit rate of 2000kbps and go from there, if you dont like the quality then go up, if you dont like the file size go down till you found a happy medium.
