what kind of camera are you looking for? compact, prosumer, superzoom, slr. you are right there are tons of cameras to choose from anymore that it makes it hard to pick one. if you have a best buy near you go play with them, find one thats easy for you to use.

See thats the thing, I was using my parents camera to take all my pictures but now Its time to get my own. Im not very up on todays technology so I dont really know what to look for. Id like a small camera with a serious about of balls.

Well let me tell you, my parents are not camera savy and I finally got them on the right road.
I bought a kodak Z650 and I figured out how to take great shots.
Its super easy to figure out how to use and has some good features. BUT, its outdated and ebay is just about the only source for them anymore.
So, my parents bought the Z710.. So did many of my coworkers and 2 other family members of mine. We LOVE the 10x optical zoom. The Z710 also has image stabalization. I dont' know if that model is still current or discontinued.. but either way I am sure they have a new model of the Z710 thats very nice.
Cameras are like snowmobiles, we need to know what you want to do with it.
I like the Z series (high zoom) kodaks because they do it all. Even the videos are decent and have great sound. $200 bucks goes a long way... video, great pictures, full adjustablity, macros, super easy to use and so on. The only down side is size, they are not small. But for me, I don't care if its big or small. Heck my coworker can't even use his cell phone right and he was taking still shots of a hummingbird 2 days ago with his. He figured out the shutter speed like nothing. Thats why kodak calls the series easy share.
edit- there is NO photoshopping in the images above.

there is pros and cons to all cameras, ultra compact normally only have 3-5x optical zoom(run away from digital zoom) but are extreamlly small, zoom cameras (5-12x) are going to be bigger and heavier. optical image stabilization is awesome, digital image stabilization pretty much sucks like digital zoom. http://www.steves-digicams.com good place to go for review and info.
