I've always run Polaris blue oil in my 2002 XC 500 and 2001 xcsp 800. With expenses on the rise I'm trying to find ways to save some money. I'm thinking about using Valvoline at about $12.00 per gallon as apposed to genuine Polaris at $25. Obviously Polaris doesn't make their own oil and Valvoline may be what's in their container anyway. Does anyone have any experience with Valvoline - good or bad? Any other less expensive oils that have proven a good way to save some money?? All advise appreciated.

Where do you buy those? I buy amsoil in a gallon from my local parts dealer because my polaris dealer is 30 minutes away. That is a few bucks cheaper than the polaris oil.

my dealer has it.
You can use citgo sea and snow also. It is usually around $12-$14 a gallon.

Oil isnt a place where Id be trying to save money. I personally wouldnt be using an oil that is designed for chainsaws/weed wackers or outboard boat motors. The needs of a snowmobile oil are vastly different from the needs of the above-mentioned oils.
If you want to save money, the first thing Id do is get rid of that gas-guzzling 800.

why not save a few bucks by dropping about 7 sizes on the main jets, you will
improve your gas mileage, it makes about as much sense as running cheap oil, youll save big in the short run. penny wise dollar stupid!

Personally, I don't see why you couldn't use it. Valvoline is a name brand oil, and you have a non-VES engine.
I use Phillips 66 Injex oil. It is inexpensive, and is rated pretty darn good. It has a very low pour point, and was the official oil of some snowmobile racing series..... I just don't remember which one.
Look into it and compare it to Valvoline, price-wise.

Because replacing pistons from running lean is so much cheaper.

Alright, you know what addrenjunky, out of my 1600 miles run last year, 1400 of them were running.. hm.. I dont even know what its called. They sell it at walmart for $7.95 a gallon, and the only difference my sled had vs amsoil dominator was smell and smoke. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I run Valvoline and it works just as well as Arcticcat Oil and it is way cheaper.
I only run Arcticat oil if I am almost out and the store doesn't supply Valvoline.

Same here
Wally world SuperTech 2 stroke!
Got to admit the smell and smoke took a little getting used to, but I've had ZERO mechanical problem's, related to oil.
My brother Bear1 also ran all last year with it in his Indy, also with Zero problem's related to oil.
I've always subscribed to the theory, that I'd rather run rich and over oiled, and foul a few plug's. than melt down an engine and have to replace piston's and cylinder's.

According to Indy dan at indy Specialties,
you can run pretty much any 2 stroke blue oil. I think he runs castrol or something.

citgo sea and sno i have seen many many miles on that oil smells good and is only about 10-12 per gal. fleet farm runs a sale once a yr 9.99 gal stock up. phillips 66 injex is good oil also and about 13-14 per gal. valvoline snowmobile oil is decent product to i run it for years back in the day. but i prefer citgo or phillips

I dont run Klotz, but I agree with you about the oil part. Id much rathar spend more for oil than to go cheap on oil and have to rebuild an engine.
Keep in mind, those cheaper oils are rated at only TC-W3, which is an outboard boat motor standard from the '70s.
The oil needs of a snowmobile engine are vastly different from the needs of an outboard boat motor.
Boat motors run at a low rpm and at a lower temp, whereas sleds run at a higher rpm and run at much higher temps.
If you guys want to go cheap on oil, knock yourself out, I'll stick to using a quality oil that I can trust (not some cheap stuff from Wal-Mart).

IMO as long as you run a synthetic 2 stroke oil its gonna be fine with power valves. What we run can be picked up at any Farm & Fleet, or Fleet Farm for you nordern boys. The synthetic is in a gold jug and goes right into the F and crossfire and the apv's are as clean as they would be after running AmsOil.(Actual testimony after a teardown) The name of the oil escapes me now though. I wanna say ArcticBlue but dont quote me...
"Well Dad i grabbed a fist full of the Go-Stick and, well, as you can see the sled is in that hole now."
There is no replacement for displacement.
