K guys tis the season for getting the sled ready and i got a cpl more parts coming for the apex. This weekend i will be ordering 9 inch cr racing risers along with extended throttle cable and brake line, and possibly a cromoly steering post pending on how hard it is to install.

Does anyone else have some neat suggestions for this machine? It will eventually be gettin a 1 piece hood and cowl and the headlights will be ditched and replaced with much smaller PIAA lights. I was thinking of going with a blacked out sled with chrome and blue accents?

Any ideas, suggestions, or comments of what can be done to this sled are much appreciated. here is of the pic of the sled in it's current state.

Boost? It is your friend.

Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of the Rangers. Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster and fight harder than any other soldier. Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be, one-hundred-percent and then some. Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow. Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country. Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor. yes boost is an upmost definite but that won;t be until I move to Alberta and i have full ownership of the sled.

Me? back to 2 stroke? give yer head a shake lol. weight wise we have shaved off about 100lbs maybe just over so the hp/lb ratio has already been improved a bit the only major mods that i can think of right now to make to lighten it up are a tunnel and headlite delete/plastics and battery. Check out my signature to see what has mainly been done so far. Dad won;t fund anymore major costs into the sled so when i take over the sled first on the list is a tunnel followed by a front mount turbo puttin out just under 300hp.

i do ride the phazer most of the time but when i go to the mountains my dad lets me take the apex if he's not riding it as my phazer can't get me to the places i try to go. I have put an exhaust and handlebars and a cpl small changes on my phazer but i haven;t dropped big bucks on my phazer for a couple of reasons. There are not many aftermarket parts for my phazer the only things i would do are turbo and suspension, suspension is out of my budget and i won;t drop in a turbo because i will be handing this off to my 10 year old brother. Dad wants me to buy his sled out so he has been letting me ride it lots. Yes my dad has been doing up the apex really nice and i've been helping him pick out the parts for the sled and such knowing i'll be taking it over. I do the same with my little bro he helps me work on my sled and everything i've done he has thought was really cool for the phazer.

I do not want to leave the impression that i am a spoiled brat. I love my parents for being able to provide me with such a nice sled and I am grateful and I do my fair share to help out in return. I was given the choice of having a more powerful sled instead of the phazer but we also keep in mind that my little bro needs something to ride to so we went with the phazer instead of a bigger sled.
sorry for the long post.

Except for the hood i don't really think you can lighten your sled up that much more. They have a weightless brake system that i forgot who sells it but it drops 1 lb lol. Titanium is probaly way out of the question lol. since you are getting a turbo thats about the last thing you can really do.

You can always lighten a sled especially an Apex.

-get rid of all foam, it is not your friend.
-sway bar delete
-Make friends with the hole saw
-Do they make light weight panels?
-lightweight hood and piaa is a good place as long as you lose that heavy tach.
-Is the air box part of your hood? If so ditch that too. No point in going to a light hood if you are going to throw all the heavy stuff back on.
-Do you have better boards or an equivalent?
-Port your track to get rid of snow build up.
-Say goodbye to all the useless plastic accents and pretty add ons that are there for looks.
-No snowflap or a trimmed one with scratchers will help keep excess snow out of the tunnel.

I've acutally always prefferend the sway bar might try with it off now that the sled has floats. drilled out air holes and lite weight hood will come after the turbo. airbox will be replaced by turbo intercooler. running boards are fine as they are that won;t be changed unless the sled gets a tunnel. I'm still iffy on the track porting might have to try it out since the current track will be changed out eventually. There was not much for plastic accents and trim to start off with and all of that is gone already. I'm going to stick with stock panels because the stock plastic is durable and soft and it does not break when the sled is rolled over. gauge will prolly be mounted on the bars. Ithink the next major piece to the diet is a battery which will save 10 lbs from the front of the sled.

there is a very simple weightless brake system. Just ditch the parking brake then a strong band over the brake and handlebar works fine.

YOU do not want to cut your flap or take it off..... they are ment there to bounce the snow back or catch the snow more on the cooling fins... Unless you have a U-cooler.

^^^ the apex has running board coolers and scratchers. This sled spends most of its time in the steep and deep so the snow flap is not an issue. will prolly only trim it that way i'm not throwing a ton of roost at other riders. As for the parking brake i'm going to leave that be as 120 bucks is not really worth the 1 pound, my buddy can do that on his CNC for free. I really like how that parking brake works though.

I'm going to stick with stock panels because the stock plastic is durable and soft and it does not break when the sled is rolled over. gauge will prolly be mounted on the bars. Ithink the next major piece to the diet is a battery which will save 10 lbs from the front of the sled.

Except for the hood i don't really think you can lighten your sled up that much more. They have a weightless brake system that i forgot who sells it but it drops 1 lb lol. Titanium is probaly way out of the question lol. since you are getting a turbo thats about the last thing you can really do.

there is a very simple weightless brake system. Just ditch the parking brake then a strong band over the brake and handlebar works fine.

why go through that hassle when some one sells one that still has the parking brake?

Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor. id loose the sway bar if i were you. Im pretty small, but with no sway bar throwing my sled around is fairly easy, compared to my buddies with a sway bar. Also loose some lbs.

take a poop before a ride :)

where only windbreakers and rain pants...just kidding.

It costs $$ to lighten it up. So i say why try to lighten it up when you can boost it and put the power to weight ratio through the roof.

Its not my sled yet. I'll be boosting the the sled, that is a upmost definite but my dad likes the power it has now so he just wants it lighter. The sway bar set up on the apex consists of two very small linkages, i've actually always liked having the sway bar on for mountain riding. I have already started saving to buy the sled and put an mc express mid mount turbo on it. yest it costs $$ to lighten it up but it also costs $$$$$$ for turbo, engine rebuild and finding a place to buy av gas.

i ride where its steep n' deep :P

just get a pump gas turbo kit and shim the head way cheaper and you always have fuel avaliable also i think youd crap your pants if you threw big boost at it.

Pump gas turbos are making some pretty big power too.
Talk to Tom Hartman at Hartman Enterprises, he has some nice set ups for boosting Apexes.
Tell him I sent you, he's a friend of mine.
