Yeah it was slower and had allot less low end torque as well. The SLP pipes and silencer were around 30+lbs lighter then stock and was really noticeable.
I went to one radar run last year out in a bean field, not sure on the distance, not very far though. The best it did was 83 mph. Other sleds best were: 1000 T-Cat did 81 mph, an M-1000 ran 83mph, and the winner was a 300hp supercharged Yamaha and he ran 91 or 93, a bunch of other 800cc sled were in the mid 70s. I have a video I’ll try and get up.

What do you think of the PSI pipes? Last year at the radar runs on ice I was running 84mph in 660'. Built V-Max 4's, Fusion 900's and Cat 800's were running between 81-86mph. I would like to break into the 90's this year in 660'. I am really looking forward to the longer runs like 800' and 1000 feet runs. Should be fun.

It sounds like you did pretty good then. I see no reason why you shouldn’t be in the 90s with your sled. Iv'e never ran PSI but I have read that they were the better pipes for the Storms especialy if you have porting.

Most all the radar runs in MN are 1,000ft or ¼ mile. My Storm doesn’t have studs so I run the XCR on ice. I ran that machine twice at 1,000ft radar events and ran a best of 105mph at one and 101mph at another. I hadn’t changed the set up between the two times and it ran 4 mph slower at the second. So I go by what other sleds are running the same day. At the event I only ran 101mph there were 3 other XCR 800’s and they couldn’t even get past 98 mph so I felt good about how mine ran.

105 in 1000' is good. When there was the 800' radar run the turbo'd Rx1's were running about 126mph. I never got to run my storm at anything longer than 660' last year. It was my first year with the sled. Do you ever come to Wisconsin for any runs?

No I haven't. There is going to be an XCR 800 meet in Hayward Wisconsin this Dec. or Jan. Other sleds are more then welcome but its intended to see the diff between ported/piped XCR's vrs. stock engine XCR's. Guys on HCS forums have argued between the two set ups so were going to settle it this year in Hayward.

Nice. Sounds like fun. Make sure you let me know when that is going to happen. Might just have to take the storm's up there to play with the XCR's. How far away from Hayward are you?

What do you think about teflon coating pistons? When I talked to HTG he said that they highly recomend coating Wiseco pistons. It costs $30 per piston. I thought that it sounded like a good idea so I told them to just do it.

I don’t have any experience with coded pistons but I’ve had my fair share of Wiseco pistons in the Storm and know they can seize very easily so any thing that would help with that should be a good investment.

Sieze from cold siezure or what? I always heard that the storms like to warm up really good before getting on them. I always let my sleds warm up at idle for at least 10-15min. before I ride.

No, I never lost a piston from cold seizer, I also let my sled warm up and ride them for a while before running them hard. The problem is that Wiseco never had the clearances right for the early Storm cylinders. With first set of pistons I went through the recommended clearance on the box said .0027, well that was way too tight. The second set said .0047 which was also too tight. My sled now has around .0055 piston to cylinder clearance and its been running good now. I have some you tube videos up now of my sled running SEARCH "DuraSled" if you want to see more. :

Yep, Storms are pretty good on the water, plenty of power. BUT because of the excessive crankcase volume it takes along time to get the water out of the engine if you sink LOL! The vids on the small river are with the stock track. It skipped OK with that track. The vids of the big open water are with a 136inch 1.35 Cobra track, much, much better for water. It hooks hard on snow as on water with that track.

Are you taking your Storm to Hayward along with the XCR? Also do you trail ride your Storm or is it just a lake runner?

As of right now I’m about 99% sure I’m going to bring the Storm. I guess it depends on the conditions, if there is no snow and were racing on a clean lake I’ll leave it home. I hope there’s allot of snow because I know some guys with XCR’s that aren’t running studs, so were going to race on the hard pack as well if we have snow.
I trail ride the Storm, I basically do this: If we have fresh snow or going water skipping I’ll ride the Storm but if the trails are icy and hard I drive the XCR. My XCR is set up more for lake racing.

How far are you from Hayward? It sounds like most of us are going to be staying at local motels.

I am about 5-6 hours away. Do you know when you guys are racing? Janurary would be a lot better. I'm not getting my cyl's back from HTG for about another 2-3 weeks! What would you say is the best way to break in this motor?

It hasn’t been decided yet but I think if the lakes freeze up and we get some snow in Dec. it will probably be then? If you get you cylinders back the 3 weeks that should be enough time for you to get it together? Figuring out your jetting will probably be the most difficult part. Be sure to ask HTG what to start with for certain temps. Do you have EGT gauges? When breaking in an engine you just run it how its going to be run normal. If your going to race it then run it hard. I believe the harder you run it the faster it will be. I actually don’t like the term “breaking in”, that’s not actually what’s going on with a new engine. What is happening is rings are sealing and bearings are loosening and what better way to do that then beating on it right away.

I just bought a set of Avenger 3 EGT's. They should be real nice. I really wanted a set for a couple years and now with putting so much into this motor and finally got a set. I really don't want to burn it down. What oil would you run in it to "break it in"? I always run amsoil intercepter oil but I heard that synthetic is not good for seating new rings.

I think thats more so for auto engines then 2-strokes. Just leave the amsoil in it and run 50:1 ratio in the tank with what ever oil you want for the first fill of gas. Amsoil is all I ever run, its good oil but there prices are going crazy!!

Not sure what the fastest storm is but when set up right they rip. They have a bad rap for being heavy but are very fun on lakes. Stock they will burry the speedo past 120mph across a lake.

Mine sled went 118 on radar on lake gogebic

replaced the gear case chain at 3500 miles because there was no more adjustment, i was running a picked track that snapped at 5500 miles at 110 mph and this sled still runs strong as day one, i adjusted the oil pump when new to feed more oil for the motor and I have always added extra oil in the gas, and warmed this sled up, I love that motor that is in my storm. Twelve thousand five hundred miles and still happy with comp even across the three clys.

What were you paying for your Amsoil Interceptor oil last year? I was getting it for 25 bucks a gallon. My buddy is a amsoil dealer.

$25 is really cheap! I run the HP oil in my Storm and when I bought my XCR last year the guy gave me enough Polaris VES oil to last the rest of the season. I usually just buy it from the local Napa store.

What do you pay for the Intercepter oil at your NAPA store? I can buy it from NAPA by me for about 26-28 bucks a gallon.

I have a 93 storm, I added 94 800 cylinders and psi pipes along with psi recomended cooling mods and clutching . It has the older v force reeds with no provision for the balance tube. Are you guys with modified storms still running the balance tube? I picked up a set of v force delta 2 reeds but the factory storm boots (with the tube provision)dont fit. I also have a set of 38mm flatslides I would like to try and I am going to change my gearing to the 21/39 This is the first place I have found any info on this sled and any input would be helpful.

You have to cut the factory Storm boots to fit V2 and V3 reeds. You cut the part that looks like a reed stuffer.

Thanks for the information, I was afraid to just cut without talking to someone first, I didnt know if it would weaken the rubber conection. Do you think that it is a worth while mod to reinstall the balance tube and run the delta 2's? Motor runs great in the mid range but the bottom end is miserable.
