Bambi would have been a better and shorter movie if he was shot in the beginning with his mother

if a ride on lawn mower takes bumps better than your sled, its time to upgrade

Usually they have less power but are lighter, more reliable and better on gas.

My fan sled is tons ligher than my liquid sleds. I never noticed it til i owned a liquid sled, fan was all i owned before that. After messing with the liquids and then went to move the fan, that thing didnt weight hardly a damn thing.

They are less maintenance also, prolly a little more reliable. But like said they have quite a bit less power.

Not really, the liquids have quite an advantage power wise.

They do just as good as liquid cooled. Less power but lighter. Less worry if riding in icing conditions, low snow or going at a slower pace as you don't need to kick up snow to cool the sled.

Well... I believe the fan would not overheat as easily in the summer. BUT then again there is the power difference. If its short grass drags then the liquid would be better, since it wouldnt be running for very long.

I dont think so, i have never heard of that. Should be no problems. But as with any sled if you plan on running it in warmer weather for more than one a rip or two across the lawn for fun, you will need to rejet it for the weather.

The jets are inside the bottom of the carbs. They let you change them so you can get the right amount of fuel so you dont burn your sled down from being too lean. And so it dont run rich. The warmer it gets the richer its going to run. The colder it gets the leaner it runs.

You dont have to be sorry, thats what this forum is about........sometimes Anyway i am riding a fan cooled sled right now and its my second year, id like to go to liquid because ive had fans my whole life but if you were a starter id say they were perfect. Like westman said theyre like never any maintenace...i drove mine to the ground and it never had any problems withthe engine, the sled has 12000kms on it and still has 125 psi in both cylinders.

I agree, they are great starter sleds. I only had that sled for one year (well i still have it, had it all last year) and it was great, its not totally power-less. Especially if you havent been riding way bigger sleds. It will get you around and you can still have fun on them.

from my experiences it is a pain in the ass to get a fan to run well in the summer. and as far as grass drags, dont bother. they are under powerd and rather slow.

In all honesty I dont think I will ever own another fan cooled sled. top speed is usually around 60-70mph, and with the people I ride with its pretty much impossible to keep up with them.

dialing in each of your carburators by changing the main jets which control the amount of fuel into the engine(from 60% throttle to 100%). Too much and you run rich, which will make the sled run rough, use more gas, and lose performance. Too little, and your sled will run lean, will have very good perfomance, but eventually burn down. Normally, at least polaris', are jetted 2-3 sizes too rich from the factory to prevent an excess amount of warrenty claims.

For example, my pro-x came with 440 main jets stock. Droping this down to 420 main jets (the proper jetting for this sled with my setup and running at sea level) greatly improved performance, consistancy, fuel milage, ect. Just by rejetting your sled and clutching it lightly, you will notice a night and day different in the way it runs.

My Uncle runs a 89 Phazer448 which is a fanner and last year riding, he was keeping up with us. He was doing about 85-90mph. But yea they are super light compared to liquids.

Is the reason a fan makes less power is because it has to draw power to run the fan?

It makes less power because the tolearnaces are a lot looser on a fan cooled engine. Liquid cooled engines have tight tolerance specs since the liquid can quickly cool down all components. If a fan was as tight as a liquid it would overheat and burn down almost immediatly.

Nope, I'm not sure...someone with more knowledge than myself might chime in and correct me too...but I think the reason liquids perform better is since they have more consistent cooling they can have smaller consistencies in machining...plus when a liquid is cooling well, nothing runs like a well-cooled engine.

exactly. Just like with motorcycles, air cooled bikes have much looser specs, since the compontents have to operate in such a wide range of temps. This is why the liquid cooled bikes put out way way more power.
Also look at cars, VW and Porcshe gave up the air cooled cars in order to make more power and less pollution.
That being said I'll be riding an fan cooled sled this winter. I love the weight savings and the simplicity

Yup, what he said....Fanners lose thier power from the inconsistent engine temp. Ideally you want the engine at a specified temp all the time to produce the most power.

Fanners don't have electric fans, they have a direct drive (fanwheel) off the Mag. side of the motor, it basically has a veined wheel that circulates air over the motor, this also robs power.

Although I disagree on the weight thing...I have 2 Poo Sport Touring 440 fanners(2-ups) that weigh in at 485lbs, and my 01 RMK 700 (liquid) weighs 495lbs. 10lb difference and about double the HP's.

I think the big heavy liquid sleds are heavy because the 800+ cc motors and 141"+ length tracks and suspension....but you don't really notice that if it's well balanced and you have power to spare.

Slugging them around in the garage isn't a fair comparison.

I dont know this but, do you have to worry about getting snow in the fan at all? My buddy melted his indy and the dealer said it was because there was snow in the fan.
