just bought a 1985 phazer from a guy that i work with. in is it pices but he just rebuilt and put in new jets in the cabs the mortor runs after one pull but it burns alot of oil. blue smoke is just dumps out of the exhaust. never dealt with a 2stroke so i do not know what to do witht he smoke. is it because it is just getting to mush oil or just cause it was sitting for 2 years that i just need to run it for a while. also any good trick on how to tune carbs.
does any know where to get a sevice manual for the sled at a good price.

ps. sry about the spelling i sux at it.

they prably turned up the oil injector and they do smoke a lot when it is above 50 degrees out anyway and for your question about the manual your local shop/parts dealer

since you say you are new to 2-strokes, it would probably be nice if someone would let you know that dumping blue smoke out of the exhaust is completely normal. Especially when it isn't warmed up.

i wouldn't turn it down. try riding it when you get snow. if it fouls plugs then i would but if it dont then run it. better to much then not enough.

Be very careful attempting to tune the oiler if you have little or no experience!!! You can potentionally burn down a sled if settings aren't correct!! Seek out a mechanic if it's really a big oil issue. I too would ride it a few times and put some miles on it to see how much oil it's really using. It's far better to burn too much oil than not enough and end up walking out!! Speaking from experience here!! Ouch!! I have a '98 700 RMK that uses twice as much oil as my other three sleds but shes happy and shes a climber! Good luck!!

i know 2 stokes burn oil.
i work on diesel trucks and wouning if the oil injection is like how some trucks have oil cooling system. which is when the piston is at Top dead center on the comression stroke it sprays oil on the cyclinder walls to cool down the cyclinder
also i started it tonight and it did not burn any oil so now im lost. all i did was just put 92 octane in the tank and but new fuel line on it

A 2 stroke mixes the oil with the fuel and burns both at once. If the sled hasnt been running in awhile and its warm out then it will smoke a lot. Once snow gets on the ground you can check your ratio by marking your oil tank and running a tank of gas thru it. Your fuel oil ration should be around 45:1.

I also wouldnt recommend starting it too much without using it. It will load up and foul plugs and make the sled very sluggish.

don't worry about your spelling, every one on this website screws up in that departmant and 2-strokes are suppose to be smoky, it's part of the 2-stroke experience. If it doesn't smoke then you have a problem.

-To ride or not to ride, what a stupid question!

-Ice, snow, or grass, I'll still kick your ass.

yOU SURE ARE GETTING A LOT OF HELP, ThatT'S ONE OF THE THINGS i LIKE BEST ABOUT THIS SITE. iT IS VERY HARD TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM, JUST BY DESCRIBING IT.. whoops caps lock glitch....Is the fuel fresh. If not flush the system. Is the correct oil in the tank, Viscosity makes a difference. and you can seize an engine ,from running too much oil. It leans out the fuel to air ratio. Is the choke fully disengaging?..sometimes the stick in the orfice. are the jets and air intakes to and in the carb clean and free if obstuctions? Is the ignition firing at full power? Is there considerable residue in the exhaust system? These are just a few of the problems i've encounted, since becoming a fanatic in 06.Stream some vid on your gallery and it may help. Also watch the oil injection lines and the little clamps that fasten them to the intake. if one gives way. It can ruin your whole day..and Don't give up.

Try eBay for a service manual. Make sure it came from Yamaha, not a company that makes service manuals. It will tell you how to check the oil pump adjustment.
