Studding my track - Studding before or after installing a new track? started by PX

Well, it's time to replace the track in my sled. So I bought a track, and it's unstudded. I was curious if I should stud it before puttig the track on the sled or after. Any comments or suggestions?

IMO it's easier to stud when it's on the sled. Less movement from the track when your tightening the studs and drilling. It's just more of a bitch to rotate the track when it's installed. Go with whatever you like!

Its a lot easier to install a non studded track than a studded track. Studding takes time no matter where you do it.

I agree with Will_5. Its much easier when the track is on the sled.

I'm not a big fan of studs, but I've heard you should run a new track for a couple hundred miles before studding it, to let it stretch and wear in first.??? Any truth to that? I guess it would make sense where as a stretched, flopping track with studs, can cause some ugly problems??

i would install the track first becouse its much easier to install without studs. then studding it jsut takes time. either way it will be a pain. im not big into studs i used to want them then i just went to deep lug tracks and if you are a carful driver its just as good.
