Well a buddy was sick of getting stuck on his F7 ext last year. And I was even more sick of digging him out. So I convinced him to get a 2" paddle track. With the power the F7 puts out it should move a lot of snow. Turns out finding a 144" x 13.5" x 2" isnt as easy as it would seem. So the next option was getting a regular 15" wide track and cut .75" from each side. We tried to find someone to cut it but had no luck, so we had to do it ourselves. After a lot of thinking we decided a table saw would be best.
So we get everything set up and start cutting a practice track. Turns out the saw couldnt handle it and we bent the shaft on the motor. No big deal since it can be fixed and its only a cheap saw anyways. So yesterday we get a heavy duty DeWalt table saw, set up the jig and start cutting the practice track. Everything went good so tonight we started cutting the brand new paddle track. About 2 hours, 2 blades, and countless bottles of water later we ended up with a perfect 144" x 13.5" x 2" Camoplast Challenger track.
Overall everything went smoothly. We had the saw setup comfortably and went slow. We used a 10" carbide tip 40 tooth blade and used a spray bottle to keep the blade cool. Id gladly do it again if I had to and wouldnt even bother with a practice track next time. It was easier than expected
Anyways, here are some pics.

Glad that it worked out for you guys.
I'd be a little apprehensive about trying something like that, I'd be thinking "don't mess up the new track, don't mess up the new track" over and over again.

Itll be at least 2 weeks before the track is ready to be put on. Have a lot of small things to do yet. Right now theres a M8, M7 and F7 in my shed and they all have a small list of finishing touches waiting to be done. Ill be sure to get pics up once everything is finished. Its calling for snow in a week so maybe we should get a rush on.
All 3 of us were worried about messing up the track. But the guy who owned it assured us he didnt care if we ruined one this time around.

Looks sweet, but, aren't the edges on a track like, enclosed, and then when you get towards the center, you start seeing the inner treads ( I don't actually know what they're called ). Did you clamp the edges and burn it. Anyways, that will look sweet on an F7. Do you guys have to move the heat exchanger or anything?

We are gonna use a blowtorch to sear the ends before we put the track on. Track will fit without any other changes.

Glad it turned out nice. I've read about people doing it that exact way. A good table saw and some time is all it takes they claim. Guess it works!

Hopefully it does not alter the integrity of the track. I had one here that had the cords run to the edge and loop back 1 inch then back horizontal. Cutting the ends off would have altered the strength. Hopefully the one you did wasn't made like that and you have no issues.
Whats the weight of the track before and after?

I havent weighed the track, but I cant imagine it being much more than 2-3lbs in savings. We inspected the cords and they seem to have held up fine. I honestly think its gonna work great. We are working on the F7 skid tonight and maybe my handwarmers. Calling for 30cm this weekend, maybe get the first ride in if we are lucky.

Why can't manufacturers design sleds with track sizes in mind? What's the point of having different lengths, like a 121", 123", etc, and different widths. Just stick to a few, don't eff around
By the way, good job on the track mod!

Will the 2 inch paddles fit with the stock drivers? Or did you put smaller ones in?

I have the same issue with my F6 ext. I would have liked to purchase a deeper paddle track for it, but they are not available to be purchased. I am sticking with my stock track. I rarely get to ride in real deep powder. Great idea and please report how it holds up.

That sounds like a mod not everyone is going to have. Table saw is deffinatly the way to cut it. Most people would be amazed with all the stuff you can cut with a tablesaw. Is someone wearing a helmet in the one pic?
