In the first picture what is the white underneath? Do you chalk it out on the wall first from memory then paint it in? Just wondering what the steps of a paint mastermind are?

It's white I airbrushed in trying to find the form. I start off so light I just see the image then add more contrast as it takes shape. THen I start my underpainting and base colors.
