Just wandering what the ruling is or peoples opinions on octane booster. I am not trying to get 110 octane from 93 with additive, I am talking more along the lines of helping out some 89 or 91 with some booster in a time of need. Sometimes in the sticks all you can get is 91 at best...what do you think?

Thank you, I need this info too, since I'll probablly be running 91 octane with octane booster to get it up over 92 for my 01 Pro X.
Edit: as of right now, I bought some Amsoil octane boost. Oh, and almost all the gas stations around here have 91 octane premium.

Why would you need more than 91 octane for the 700?
Most regular gas stations have 87, 89, and 93. Are you thinking 89?

95% of octane boosters are worthless. The "octane points" that they speak of is a trick. What they actually mean by 7 octane points is that your 89 octane gas will be changed into 89.7 octane gas. It's a waste of money.
If your sled says it needs 92(never heard of that), 91 will work fine, assuming it's actually good fuel. There's enough room for error to run one octane point less on a trail sled.

Ok i know nothing about the octance stuff, not one bit. But what would i want to run in my 99 ski doo 440x? Its running low comp domes and was just pushing 150 psi after rebuild. I think its just under 150 psi as of now. What is recommended to run it it?

Just about every sled is made just for 89octane except for your "Racing Sleds" like my 440 SnoPro was made for 110 but i had to convert it over to 91 premium non oxygenated. I have a good friend that owns a gas station, He says nomatter what kind of sled, just make sure the gas is non-oxygenated which means no Ethanol. Ethanol doesn't combust very well in sled expecially when it gets colder out. I know alot of peeps who run regular 88-89 octane. But I believe in the 91Premo Non-Oxy, I run in both of my sleds. And as far as your sled running 150PSI, That is VERY high combustion for a snowmobile. Infact i believe that is almost the top of the chart, I could be wrong?????
Don't start no sh!t, won't be no sh!t.

Different compression testers will yield different numbers and compression numbers are only part of the equation when figuring out what octane is needed. Since it's running the low compression domes you should be fine running 91 octane(I'm assuming that's what the low compression kit calls for). Make sure the timing dial is set correctly too if that sled has one.

Most newer sleds call fo 91 octane.
That's exactly what I run for pump gas, 91 Octane chevron.
For any higher octane needs, I mix in a little race fuel, normally 114 octane Pro Purple from VP because it's a very consistant fuel and I can mix it down with pump gas for my needs.
As for octane boosters, they are pretty much a joke.
Go back and read Shortstop's post (post #5) about them and learn.

And I know it really doesn't matter but my sled was raced a couple times, but that really shouldn't matter for running 91 octane instead of a little higher octane?

Exact thing that I do. We run 91 octane in our pro x with a little octane booster.

I asked because the heads are cut a bit and it's a fresh motor. I know I can run 93 or probly 91 no problem, but like I stated in the original post, sometimes you can't get even 91, let alone 93. I am just wandering if I can carry a bottle of this magic juice and help out some crappy gas should I need to get some of it! I guess not, judging by the opinions.

Sounds like your stuck! LOL...Best rule of thumb is to run whatever your manual says, running higher octane is just a waste otherwise. My XCR manual says to run 92 octane, sometimes all I can get is 91 and the sled still runs fine. Most likely it would run ok on even 87 you just run the risk of detonation under higher load/temps. I'm running around 140psi in each cyl. It's the real high compression engines that really depend on proper fuel to run right, consumer machines all have a safety factor built into them due to inconsistent fuel & retards.

So, would it be ok if I ran ethanol fuel as I have no choice? Will it be ok, have all the peformance it should?

With your 01 prox 440 10% ethanol 91 octane will be OK. As long as you arn't jetted near the edge and get a slug of bad fuel you will be ok.

Mfg's know that ethanol is the new norm, especially out west. They won't sell machines that won't run ok on slighty subpar fuel, lord knows theres enough of that crap out there.

You can get nonoxygenated gas at the gas station on North Nokomis in Alex. It used to be Cenex, but I don't know what it is now. It's right past Paul's Small Engine and Cullens.

There's stop and go to, but I don't want to have to ride into Alex every time just to get gas. Besides, then I wouldn't be able to get very far away from here for rides, and I'm not gonna carry a gas can with me, but thanks anyways for the info.

If your sled calls for 92 octane, 91 octane will work just fine(assuming it's good fuel). Forget about the octane booster.

91 Non Ox is better than the 93 w/corn oil in it. If you're really worried, buy a 5 gallon can of the 100 Race fuel, dump like 32 ounces to 6 gallons and see what the plugs look like
