Alright guys, I am asking you not to bash this topic. I am trying to ask a serious question, as I have to mail out a snowmobile motor tomorrow to Ohio. I was thinking of wrapping it up in bubble wrap, then putting it in a box, and packing it with news papers ( tightly ) to keep it from smacking around. What do you guys think it would cost? It's a 580 liquid engine, and I'm guessing weighs 90lbs, but I could be way off on that.

I had a stripped down fuji 500 engine that i shipped with UPS packed tight and nice in a box for like 40 bucks maybe.. That was with the clutch, if you get it in the right box you can make it cheap. I used 2 inch styrofoam where i could and thinner stuff where needed.. The clutch went with it.. Used more foam, and newpaper to keep it tight. The engine got there fine. Id also suggest that strapping tape stuff cuz its stronger and wrap it around a few times to make sure the box doesnt fall apart.
And do NOT send it via USPS, it will cost a fortune, that engine i sent would have cost over 80 bucks at the post office compared to the like 40 bucks, it may have been a bit more but im pretty sure it was just around 40 bucks.

We had a motor come to our front door from WI and they made a crate to put it in and bolted it in so it doesnt smack around.

strip it down, take off the recoil housing, any external parts like ignition and other stuff and ship them seperate. you can use a card board box, but you have to make sure you stuff rags in all the openings of the motor, if they smell anything from the box they wont ship it. get 6 pieces of thin wood or 3/8 ply wood to put on all 6 sides, then pack it with bubble wrap or whatever packing material. try the post office for priceing, they are usually cheaper than fed x or ups.

woodbooga: (WOOD-boog-ah), n. regional dialect, common to areas of New Hampshire and Maine including the towns of Ossipee, Alton, Farmington, Acton, and Lebanon; one who attempts to obtain free firewood to fuel woodburning appliances in an effort to mitigate expenses related to home heating with fossil fuels. With the size to weight ratio, it told me something about Size = weight or something, and that it would cost $488 because of the size. I said 18" by 15" by 15" and 85lbs.

Go to wal mart, but up a rubbermaid tub, cut a 2 x 4 and put in botton of tub, if really want to be safe you can bolt the motor to the boards. bubble wrap motor, and pack in rags, pillows or anything like that. Put on top and duck tape it shut and put the arrows on it and fragile "not that that helps but worth a try" motor should travel safe. I shippd 440 IQ motor from MN to IL it was like 56 bucks!

I shipped my block in an old igloo cooler. I wrapped it in a number of stips of bubble wrap and then put that in a trash bag to seal it (madcow's smell point) and then dropped peanuts in the remaining void. Above all, it cannot move in the box. It's goingt obe picked up and dropped 257 times before it arrives at it's destination and if it moves it'll destroy the packaging.
