You need a press to press down on the spring to relieve the pressure on the snap ring. Having a good set of snap ring plyers (big enough to fit the hole in the snap ring) is also a good idea.

You may be able to build something to put pressure downward on the spring using some threaded stock and some big washers... I use an SLP clutch press, it works great for primaries and for that pesky snap ring on those Team clutches...

I ended up just taking the secondary to the dealer and having them replace the spring. Its only two minutes away and it saved me alot of swearing and time.

FYI for people. Do not even attempt to take that snap ring off if you don't have something that will confidently hold the spring(not your buddies hands either). That spring is under some insane pressure and could hurt you very badly.

I can post pictures of the homemade tool I have if needed.

shortstop post if you have the pictures handy. I'd like to see them if not handy don't worry about it.

boy are you lucky, a spring like that if you would have gotten the snap ring off, the only thing saving your face from getting a broken nose and tore up face was that your hands would have been in the way, so a couple broken fingers would have been all that happend.

nothing goes like 3 holes!!
