Greasing the bearing won't help anything. The case fit was too tight on them. The crank bearings are sealed anyways, there's no way to grease them. They are filled with "Iso-grease" or something like that. If it has the original motor make sure to get warranty on it, if it has a new 2008 spec motor(many of them do) then you should be fine as their reliability record was much better.
What sled exactly are you looking at? The Summit's were the only sleds to have the 800R motor in 2007.

My dads friend James bought a new XP last year, he went up to Mt. Baker and the crank broke. He was in the middle of no where with no possible way to get the sled out. He left the sled went to the skidoo dealer, and he found out that there was a recall. He got alll the parts, packed them up to where he left his sled, and his sled was no where to be found. He searched for about an hour in the general area untill finally he found it burried 2' in the snow. He fixed it on the hill and rode it back to the truck. Talk about a bad time to have a crank break

So he split his cases and put a new crank in all on a mountain side?

Dude, I bet he sets his own leg when it's broken too! Seriously, you think maybe it's the driveshaft recall he fixed? Nobody replaces a crank in the woods. FAIL.

Talk about a bad time to have a crank break You're trying to tell me he fixed a broken crank ON THE HILL? LOL There was no recall for cranks on '08 XP's. There was for driveshafts though, are you sure that's not what you're talking about? There is a huge difference, many thousands dollars worth. On a side note there are still thousands of Ski-Doo guys out there waiting for their replacement drive shafts, until they come Ski-Doo said not to drive the sleds. If the driveshaft breaks they will not pay for damages since they warned everybody. I can't even tell you how pissed I'd be if I owned one. Wake up and smell the coffee Ski-Doo, it's WINTER. They should've had those driveshafts ready 3 months ago.
