There should be a tag located on the right middle side of the tunnel showing the build month and year as well as the VIN.

Would the motor have the VIN on it? Or just it's serial number?
If/when you do find the VIN, go to your local DMV (or where ever you need to go to register it), they should have the paper work that you need.

I wish my sled was not in the shop or I could take a good picture of how to read an Ultra serial #. I hope this info works until I get it back but unfortunately it could be a week so I will try my best to explain this to you. I have pointed an arrow and circled in the picture below where the vin is located. This number is extremely hard to read! It is almost in brail. Shine a flash light up to it and you will start to make out each number. If you still have a hard time try holding a white sheet of paper just below the vin # and keep shining the light as well. This should make the vin # easier to read. The number looks as if it was stamped on with a pin or needle. I will post a step by step picture on how to do this once I get my Ultra back if this does not work for u. Sorry I can not give you better info at time.

If worst comes to worst- and I meen the absolute worst - as long as you have the original motor, you should be able to take the number off of the motor, call polaris - not sure what office - and they can run that record through their archives and find the correct VIN# for the sled. If it's a different motor your kind hosed...

If you can feel the numbers. Put a piece of paper against the place and rub a pencil acorss it. Should give you the impression. Have had to do this a few times when rebuilding Quadrajets.

Hmm. Only if you held it up to a mirror...
Pencil and white paper is a good idea. Polaris makes some of em imposible to read.

Quote originally posted by stickjammer could it be possiable when it was painted they painted over the vin? Very possible. Try to get a wire brush and take off some of the paint over that area. Maybe it'll give you a good reason to polish the tunnel. If not, call Polaris and tell them your situation. They should be able to get your information with the serial number.

Have you tried looking at the back side of the tunnel to see if there's anything stamped into it? You'd be able to see the VIN backwards if it's a deep enough impression, or if it's even stamped at all.

nothing is etched or stamped in the tunnel, talked to a sled mechanic and he said it could be that the tunnel was bent and they got a new one,if so then the new ones never got the vin stamped into it

you might have to cut part of the sticker off where it say's the vin# is, but it is there. xcr hyper has the right way of getting it and it is a pain in the you know what!

The VIN on my ultra is stamped right into the tunnel not on the sticker. It is hard to spoty and you will most likely not be able to see it without good lighting.
I couldn't find mine so I dug up the old registration. The one bright day, I was looking at my suspension and noticed it on the outside of the tunnel.

the sticker is covering the vin that is stamped into the tunnel, why they did that i don't have a clue but they did it so you have to remove some of the stucker to see it.
